Race time is almost here! The months of training are behind me, and a week from now, so will the race be behind me. But for now I want to thank you all for the love, support and encouragement as I prepared for this challenge. I'll be running in honor of some amazing people next Sunday. Watch here for an update after the big race and THANK YOU for your help fighting blood cancers! Honoring Kaye Kriz Leukemia and lymphoma are dastardly, sneaky cancers of the blood. If you don't know someone who has battled this disease, let me personalize it a little bit by introducing you to one of my honorees: Kaye Kriz. I never met Kaye. She had myeloma and lost her battle after several years, in and out of remission, on May 3, 2008. But she was incredibly inspiring to all who met her, and to someone like me, who never had the chance but witnessed the effect of her inspiration on others. By all accounts, Kaye was a remarkable woman. She had a wicked sense of humor and was an accomplished athlete. Qualifying for Boston in her first marathon, she went on to train for triathlons and Century rides. She was courageous and positive, encouraging, daring, and always up for an adventure. She was a loving wife and mom whose eyes lit up at the very mention of her family. Kaye wasn't just a myeloma patient: she was a warrior. She endured stem cell transplants, and kept her sense of humor and fighting spirit. While in remission, she trained, raised money for LLS, and rode the century ride around Lake Tahoe for Team in Training in 2007. She used her spirit and determination to fight the disease that threatened her own life, in hopes it wouldn't do the same to anyone else. Team Honorees are those in whose honor we train and raise funds through Team in Training for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each has a blood cancer: leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins Disease, or myeloma. They are the real heroes, for they inspire us with their spirit, their strength, their positive attitude, their will to overcome blood cancers. Kaye is one of my Honorees this year. Who will you honor with a donation to stop this disease? Racing to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training home page! I'm training to participate in the Virginia Beach Rock N Roll Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. I can't do this without you! I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! |
