Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
Many of you have been here before...Now what is she doing? She's going for an olympic distance triathlon in September, and a challenging fundraising goal to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training. ...that's what!
This year, I'm working toward a goal of $20,000 to celebrate 20 years of Team in Training, the biggest fitness/fundraising organization in the world. Because of the research conducted with these funds, the survival rate is climbing steadily. We fund three stellar researchers here in Virginia, and believe me, they CARE about this cause. Someday, we hope leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins, and myeloma will be diseases of the past.
So far, I've raised a total of $10,000 for two events - so please help me raise the other half - with your generous donation we'll meet my personal goals and the Society's goals.
Here’s an update on my Team Honorees: J.D. Stahl has been my Team Honoree from the beginning. He has CML, and after a long stretch of stability, his lymphoma must again be treated with chemo. Kaye Kriz has survived a second stem cell transplant...40 days and counting. Kaye and I did a TNT century ride at Lake Tahoe last June, and in August, she began a new round of chemo to treat her myeloma when it became active again. Finally, Mike Houston – a phenomenal cyclist and athlete – trained and rode the Fletcher Flyer Century Ride with TNT in May. By the end of the month, his leukemia returned and he was at Wake Forest begin chemo. He and Kaye supported each other as they were being treated. Sadly, Mike passed away on July 16
Now you know why I continue to raise funds for LLS. For me, it is up close and personal and on-going. I want to feel more certain about survival and quality of life for my friends and all who await the next breakthrough in research. Their lifeline is the hope of successful research and the development of new treatments.
I’m asking that your “funnybone” for fundraising be tickled. Please make a generous, tax-deductible donation to LLS to support my “habit” of training and doing endurance events for a cause I believe in. “Just do it!”
Blessings abundant, Jan
