MARINE CORP MARATHON AGAIN
That's right,................you heard it here first.
I'm training to participate in the Marine Corp Marathon (10/31/10) for the second time as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. My first time was back in October 2009. Why am I doing this all over again? Because I truly believe I am helping others since I've been able to see it first hand. All of us on Team In Training have the opportunity to meet people who are battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. I have heard the most intimate details of some battles and have seen the struggles and hope provided through the funds I've been able to raise.
I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. A fight my Aunt Margaret succumbed to at age 67. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Come back to visit my web site often and see my progress. Thanks for your support!

11/01/10 - I DID IT! I completed the 26.2 mile Marine Corp Marathon for the second year in a row. The topping on the cake was to do it in an even better time then in 2009. Not speedy but kept a nice steady pace so that I would reach my goal. As you can see from my tally I have also reached my fundraising goal. Thank you to everyone for their financial and emotional support throughtout this adventure.
Team In Training (TNT) raised more than $1.3 million at the Marine Corps Marathon last weekend. Everyone's contributions will go a long way toward advancing our mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
10/23/10 - SMILE!!!! I've made it to my fundraising goal and couldn't be more thrilled. Since June 2009 through today, I've been able to raise about $3,800 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Amazing! I am so very blessed to have surrounded myself with such compassionate people who have given of themselves financially which enabled me to surpass my personal goals on this outreach effort. THANK YOU ALL!
I'm in the taper phase of training which means it's minimal miles until event day. Going out to do 6 miles today and then it's less and less mileage and more and more rest leading up to October 31st. I reviewed the course for the marathon and understand the first 8 miles to be at increased elevation (yes, mostly uphill), then there's about 2 miles down hill and another 10 of fairly level surface. The final 6 miles are up and down hills. This year, there are two cut off points on the course. One at the 17 mile marker and another at the 20 1/2. What's a cut off point, you ask? Basically, if you don't maintain a certain pace then you'll be picked up by the courtesty bus and taken to the finish area. Hopefully that doesn't happen but it's good to know that the support/rescue is there if needed.
10/13/10 - Final two weeks of training and final two weeks to fund raise. $200 to go!
As you can see from the progress updates,....this has been a long journey (over 3 months). These final days leading up to the Marathon have caused me to reflect back and to remember the time and energy spent in preparing to reach my goals. I'm so close to accomplishing these goals. :0) Thank goodness! It's also made me think about those who have been affected by cancers and the progress of modern medicine which has enabled so many the opportunity to live longer. Life is precious, we're given an opportunity to make choices in life and there's no bigger gift then to give of yourself (your time, your energy, your love, your care, your concern, your prosperity, your knowledge). Please take a moment to give of yourself if not through me in your own special way as it will make someone, somewhere have a brighter day.
10/02/10 - $130 came in this week from family members (their money has not posted to the site yet). I'm down to needing to raise about $300 . YEAH!
I'm off to FL and then a 7 day Caribbean cruise with my hubby. Is there time for rest and relaxation? We'll see about that. The running shoes and plenty of workout attire is packed. Anticipating a lot of laps around the deck of the ship to cover the miles I need to be doing at this juncture. Today, I sent out letters to all the family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who have given financial support in the past in hopes that they will help get me to the finish line of my fundraising goal. Keeping my fingers crossed! I know I can count on you all.
9/24/10 - Made good progress, since my last update, not only with my training but also with fundraising. With just two more weeks to go to meet my fundraising goal the pressure is on to raise my final $450. I've been so lucky to surround myself with caring people that I know I will meet my goal with the support of my family, friends, and co-workers. If your not able to financially contribute, I could also use your encouragement through calls, cards or emails as it is difficult to find the energy to meet the necessary committment during the final 38 days of preparation.
9/10/10 - I'm finally on the home stretch of not only my fundraising with just $590 to go; but also with my training being that there are just 51 days until the marathon. More then ever I could use everyone's support. Show me you care.........whether it be a call in the morning to see how my run is going or a financial contribution. It doesn't hurt to be encouraged along the path of ups and downs. I'm waiting! :0)
8/24/10 - Brought in $250 from my recent yard sale. Thank you to those who contributed items. My total raised as of today is actually $850, it just hasn't posted to the site yet. Just $800 to go in the next 30 days.
8/4/10 - Yard Sale at 112 Saddle Drive Newport News, VA to be held on August 21st from 8am - noon. If you would like to donate items feel free to drop off or call and I'll make arrangements to pick up. All proceeds will be donated to my fundraising goal.
