Sometimes... if you are lucky you get do something
that is LIFE CHANGING....
The first time... it was becoming a mom....
The second time? Running the WDW 1/2 Marathon in 2011 for Team in Training!
I lost my dad, Doug Sherman to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on Christmas Eve, 1995. Almost 17 years have gone by since that day which at times, seems like just yesterday. Not a birthday, a moment with my children or a milestone goes by when I don't wish he was here. My dad was diagnosed in 1989. His fight against the disease included a bone marrow transplant and a great deal of time spent at Dana Farber Cancer Institute as well as many ups and downs for our family.
Though he lost his fight I continue to be inspired by the character and grace that he maintained throughout his experience. He was an educator, an artist, a poet, a wood carver, a gardener and more. He touched many lives along the way. It is in his memory that I am raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program.
I will be training to run a half marathon in Walt Disney World on January 12th. I have set a goal to raise $5000.00 for LLS. All money raised goes to LLS. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support. In additon, if you would like me to run in memory or in honor of someone you care about, please send me their name. I will put their name on my racing jersey. Donate $500 or more? I will put YOUR name on my jersey... in GLITTER!
