Thank you everyone who participated in a fund raising event or made a donation. The round robin stamp event is scheduled for June 18th at Captured Moments and there is still time to register.
Predictions of thunderstorms Sunday in Lake Placid are daunting but we'll proceed as planned. Keep you fingers crossed that I can finish the event. Walking in the rain sure beats having to get chemotherapy and spinal taps.
Will, Dutch, Bill and Mara will be at the Olympic stadium welcoming April and I as we enter. Here we go......
Walking to Save Lives - Celebrating Will's Power
Last year, our friends, the Hamiltons, received the unexpected news that their son William was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood leukemia known as Burkitt’s Leukemia. He was hospitalized for many weeks throughout his treatments and faced an intense course of chemotherapy that often left him weak, in pain and susceptible to infection. Throughout the battle I was constantly amazed at Will’s courage, strength and heroism as he fought and won this seven month battle.
Every day, thousands of families are enduring a similar struggle and hope that a cure will be discovered. In an attempt to do something to help, I have committed to walking the Lake Placid Half Marathon in honor of Will to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Throughout Will’s treatment, we were reminded that his hopeful prognosis and successful treatment were made possible by the advances in Leukemia research. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research. LLS offers a wide variety of programs and services in support of its mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Every day, about 360 people are diagnosed with a blood cancer: that’s one every four minutes. Despite the many advances made as a result of research supported by organizations such as LLS, every ten minutes a child or adult dies from leukemia or related cancer.
In signing up for the Half Marathon, I've made a committment to raise $1500. I have several fundraising events planned and welcome any contribution to help meet this goal. Thank you for your support.
