WELCOME TO MY TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) HOME PAGE!

I would first and foremost like to introduce you to a most special lady.  My Nana.

I cannot adequately describe who Nana is because that would inevitably take up too many web pages.  But, believe me when I tell you that she is one of the most incredible people one could ever hope to meet.  She is my grandmother—my dad’s mom. Her name is Donna.  She survived breast cancer in the 1980s.  She was diagnosed with leukemia in 1993 and was given three months to live.  She then proceeded to revolutionize the cancer industry by taking part in multiple experimental drugs to cure leukemia in patients, including herself.  She was the 1 patient out of 20 patients to survive in 9 different experimental treatment studies.  After years of fighting, she was deemed cured of leukemia. She has been featured in publications and was an honored teammate for her own Team In Training team.  She has been able to see three more grandchildren come into this world and grow up.  She has seen six grandkids graduate high school and five graduate college.  She has watched as three of her grandchildren got married and started their own families.  She has gotten to know two great-grandchildren.  She has moved across the country to enjoy life in the mountains. She has gone on countless gambling escapades to Lake Charles and Las Vegas.  She has lived.

On March 29, 2014, Nana passed away.

She passed away from complications due to severe brain atrophy from all of the experimental drugs that saved her life and countless others.

From the time she was diagnosed in September 1993, Nana went on to fight and thrive and live for 259 months.  Considering she was given 3 months to live at the time of her diagnosis, this astounds me every time I think of it.

Donna has impacted more lives than most of us could ever hope to touch in multiple lifetimes.  For this reason, I am setting a goal that reflects this life-altering existence.

On May 3, 2015, I will run my first full marathon.  It is my desire to have 259 donations of $100 each by this date.  For every $100 you donate, you in essence honor one month of the life Donna was never meant to live.  There is a matrix below of the months and years from September 1993 to March 2014.  If you would like to chose a specific month of a certain year that you hold a particular memory or milestone with Donna, you may dedicate this to her.  I will update this sheet weekly with the names (unless you choose to remain anonymous, in which case I will put “Anonymous”) of those who would like to reflect on those times with her.  I realize the grand scope of this goal, yet I cannot seem to fathom that she deserves anything less.  Nana’s arms extended far and wide and allowed for anyone to step inside, no matter who they were or what they had done.  She saved so many lives when she saved her own.

Please join me in honoring her in such a big way.  I can assure you, Nana deserves every bit of it.  Keep your arms open...

Please know, regardless of the matrix below, any amount you donate will be saving lives.  I truly appreciate all of your time and efforts in fighting for the cure of this terrible disease.

"When Mom was first diagnosed, she didn't want to fight. Heather was 1 year old. I put Heather in her lap and told her that she had to tell her that she wouldn't be there to see her grow up graduate. Mom told me I was mean, but decided her life was worth living. In June of 2013, Mom fulfilled her commitment to Heather and watched her receive her diploma, 246 months after being diagnosed. She not only got to spend 18 more years with Heather, but had 16 amazing years with Ryan, a grandson she would not have known if not for her determination to beat the leukemia. I am so proud to be her daughter!"

"Mom, Donna, Nana, Sister, friend...If you knew her you would remember her by her huge smile, bright blue eyes and joyful spirit. Mom loved to have a good time and to always be around people. She never knew a stranger. She loved you regardless of your inadequacies. She was a fighter and a role model to those that are fighting. Never give up. Mom always taught us to take everyone and every situation and put them in the palm of your hand and to then let all the negative or bad run out between your fingers. This would allow you to only focus on the positive that was left in the palm of your hand. Let's all live our lives better, kinder and more spontaneously in mom's memory. "

"Mom, as I and my two sisters knew her by, was like a bottle of the finest wine that actually gets better with age. She taught everyone around her to give back to life what it gives you. She was constantly smiling and made everyone around her better by her controlled craziness. She gave 100% to everything she did and left a long legacy that will be hard to fill. It will take her entire family to continue giving the blessings she bestowed on others daily. I miss her and will do everything I can to live life as she wanted us all to live. Brittany honoring her Nana by running this marathon is an incredible undertaking. I hope others feel the gift of giving to my mom and the cause. My mom gave her life so others can live 259 or more months to be with their families like my mom received from her 259 blessings. As my Mom said, Dance, Smile, Gamble. "

"Brittany, thank you for telling your Nana's, my sister's ~ Donna's story. She would be very proud of you for continuing with her mission to fight Leukemia & Lymphoma. She was a loving and caring person all of her life and always thought of others first. When she was selected to test the meds she knew it would be hard but she told me more than once that if it helped her to live longer she would be very happy. If not and the testing helped others live then it would have been worth it. She was very special and I know that right now she's smiling that beautiful smile of hers down on you for what you are undertaking in her memory. Good luck and love you lots. (Aunt) Linda. "

"My Nana is my hero, and Britt, what a great thing you are doing to celebrate her life! After reading this, it puts her life into perspective and really makes me realize just what a miracle her life was. Thank you God for letting her be a major part of each of her grandchildren's lives as they grew into adults and for keeping her here with us long enough to meet GREAT-grandchildren! Her story should be one of the greatest inspirations to EVERY SINGLE leukemia patient out there so thank you Britt for sharing it like this!"
