Racing to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training home page. Thank you to all my donors and supporters. I corssed the finished line yesterday in 5 hours and 33 minutes. I raised $ 2,951.44 for the cause. I'm nursing some blisters on my pinky toes and sore leg muscles. I met some really great people training and would not trade the experience for blisterless toes. I'm saying this is my last marathon but I said that 2 years ago. I guess it takes that long to forget how crazy training for a marathon is. Thanks again, Amy 10/26/08 Update Yesterday was our 21 mile training run and I survived. When we finished the run, the TNT staff had posters made of "Why we run". When I saw Florence's picture in her TNT shirt and all of the other men, women and children who are either battling or lost their battle with blood cancers, the 21 miles seemed like a piece of cake. In the last 20 years, TNT has raised $900 million. This year, they will donate $72 million to research. I am still about $200 away from meeting my fundraising goal of $2800. Please help me across that finish line and I will do everything I can to cross the finish line in San Antonio on Nov. 16th. 10/15/08 Update Another 18 miles completed last weekend. I'm looking forward to Saturday, ONLY 12 miles! I can remember not too long ago thinking 12 miles was so hard. I can't believe the marathon is only 4 weeks away. I still have about $200 to raise. Hopefully, I will sell some more magnets at our 21 miler in next Saturday. 9/28/08 Update We had our 18 mile run yesterday. We ran with all of the other Houston area teams. I'm not sure what happened but at around mile 16, I could not breathe and was making some awful sounding noises. I then got lost because we were running in a new area. It was very scary but I felt much better when I found my team and rested. I am also scared that I am not going to reach my fundraising goal. My final fundraiser was a pub crawl in Kemah but that whole area was washed out by Ike. Any ideas for a fast fundraiser that does not require much of an initial investment would be greatly appreciated (as would your donation). 9/16/08 Update Florence went to doggie heaven yesterday. After Hurricane Ike, I was without power until this morning. Florence was having so much trouble breathing and with no AC, it made it even worse. I had to make a very hard decision but I felt it was best for her not to suffer any longer. Thank you to everyone who is helping to find a cure. It is too late for my Flo-Flo but hopefully one day no person or beloved pet will have to suffer from this disease. 8/22/08 Update I just got back from the vet and Florence's lymph nodes are swollena gain which means the chemo she was on stopped working. We switched to a different treatment. this was actually the first one we tried but the vet thinks she could react differently because of the previous treatment. I hope this works. Getting closer on fundraising but still about $700 a way from my goal. I'm planning a pub crawl witha teammate so hopefully that will get em even closer. Training is OK - hopefully the weather will start to get cooler as we move into fall. 8/1/08 Update Well I am back on the training wagon. I did 12 miles on Saturday but for some reason it is not recorded on my Nike +. I'm so mad - why couldn't it lose a 30 minute run instead! Anyway, it was so hot and humid on Saturday and I walked a lot during the last 3 miles. My car magnet fundraiser is not going as well as I thought. I hope it picks up soon. Florence is good but had to have more chemo on Friday. She is off the Prednisone now so may be she will lose some off the 10 pounds that she put on. 7/26/08 Update. I ran the first week while working in England but when I got to Barcelona for vacation, I fell off the wagon. Too many late nights (early mornings) and too man sights to see. I also caught a cold. I tried running this morning but only made 3 miles. We have a BINGO and silent auction fundraiser today. I also received the car magnets. they look better than I imagined. They are for sale for $6.50. Florence had to have another dose of chemo at her last checkup. She seems fine and the lympho nodes are down. I am hoping that was her last one. 7/9/08 Update I actually managed to run while traveling these past 2 weeks. It was so nice and cool in Boston and Milwaukee. I only managed to do 7.5 instead of the scheduled 10 miles in Milwaukee . I had a late night the night before. The fundraising seems to have stopped while I was travelling. I will have to get busy when I get back from the second half of my trip. Someone donated $6.50, I assume for a car magnet but did it anonymously. I will not be able to send the magnets if you do not leave your name and address!!!! Florence is doing great. She has a check up on Friday. 6/28 Update We did a 5K race today instead of our scheduled 8 mile run. It was a double bonus - less mileage and I got to sleep an extra half hour (5am instead of 4:30 am). I actaully finished 3rd in my old lady age group . I was shocked. I am over halfway now. I know it is not showing up but I mailed in a check this week which will push me over the edge. Other than wanted to eat everything in sight, Florence is doing great. I hope they are able to take her off the Prednisone soon. She looks like she is going to attack me everytime I am eating something! 6/26 Update I am bit behind in my updates. I am HALFWAY to my fundraising goal - thank you all so much. I had to cut my Monday run a bit short because I found 2 adorable puppies on the loose. Of course, I had to bring them home with me. The owner eventually came for them so I do not have the Brady Bunch of dogs (yet). Tuesday , I had some ipod/computer issue so that run was completely lost but I did complete it. We do speed training for the first time tonight - should be interesting. I'm just glad it is not the hills workout. Florence is still good - lymph nodes are staying down. I start my month long travel this weekend. I probably won't be keeping up with these updates like I should. I just hope I keep up with the running. *************************************************** 6/14 Update Florence had hopefully her last dose of chemo for awhile on Friday. She goes back for a check up in a month. If the lymph nodes are down then I think she is done until the come back up. Let's keep our fingers crossed! My cousin MIcki and her friends held a carwash on Saturday, raising over $100. We are also planning our team fundraiser which will be a BINGO and silent auction. Training is OK - still hot and humid, other than that not much else to report. ************************************************ 6/7 update Not much to report on Florence and fundraising - she is still doing great and the fundraising has stayed about the same. On the training front, we had our first hill training session on Weds- boy am I out of shape. On Saturday we ran 7 (instead of our scheduled 6) miles. It was humid but since we started at 5:30 am, the sun was not beating down on us. It stinks waking up at 4:30 am on Saturdays but it is worth the few degrees cooler temp. 5/31 update Florence is doing great, just like her old self. She started the pill portion of this round of chemo on Friday. No side effects at all and those lymph glands are staying down. It is still HOT! We did 5 miles on Saturday morning and I was exhausted. I don;t even want to start thinking about the 10 miles runs coming up. I said in my letter that for $13 I would run the half and for $26 run the full. It looks like my donors want me to run an ultra-marathon. NO WAY! 26 is the most I am going. Thank you for the really generous donations. _________________ 5/24 update Florence had another round of chemo on Friday. She handled this round much better than the last one. She didn’t even lose her appetite. Training was OK this week. It has been so hot in TX, even the 20 minute runs are tough. We started at 6:30 this morning and it was still too hot and humid. On the fundraising front, I’ve received some awesome donations already but still have a long way to go.

<a style="padding-right:1px;" |
