I'm training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco on October 17, 2010 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Now I am not the most athletic person in the world and have never done anything like this before. I just went to my first workout and I didn't pass out from the heat or the exercise, so I think that's progress. I am going to just take it one step at a time. Even if I have to crawl across the finish line, I am going to do it.

5/22/10: Ran/walked my first 5K today to help raise money for Sue Van Natta. Afterwards, I bought a new pair of running shoes that I now need to break in.

5/29/10: Finished the Astros Race for the Pennant 5K this morning. The heat started getting to me right at the end, but I still finished about 3 minutes faster than last week.

6/16/10: I've been running 3-4 times a week. According the Nike+ sensor I bought for my ipod, I have done 30 miles in the last 2 1/2 weeks. I'm thinking about doing another 5K in July or August.
