Coach Liz is Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

After being involved with Team in Training for over 9 years as a participant, a mentor, and a coach and personally fundraising for and completing 16 events, my commitment to this organization has not waivered. I watched my mother battle Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for 10 years. I have a personal connection to the cause. The majority of the people on the street do not know what leukemia and lymphoma are. People who run marathons or do triathlons know that we are the "People in Purple" but they are not really sure what group we represent. I have been challenged to inform people of who we are and to inform them about what leukemia and lymphoma is and that it is killing children.

Every 4 minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes someone with a blood cancer looses their battle. Team in Training has passed the 1 Billion dollar mark in fundraising this past December and we support 37 research doctors and 16 research projects just in the Texas Medical Center. There are many other research doctors and projects that we support nation wide. 75% of what we fund raise goes to patient aid and research. Other non-profit fundraising organizations cannot claim that.

So here is something to think about. If your child, niece, nephew, grandchild, brother, sister, parent, friend, or co-worker was diagnosed with leukemia or lymphoma and needed to begin chemotherapy as soon as possible, wouldn't you do everything in your power to get them the treatment they needed?

The doctors we fund do not get government assistance to do their research. They depend on contributions from people just like you. No donation is too small. Take one week of your coffee money, or the money you would spend eating luch out for a week. That is a small sacrifice to make when blood cancer patients are making sacrifices to discontinue going to school, work, shopping malls, and other public places to avoid germs when their immune system is weakened.

I've committed to raising $1700 by July 1st. It seems like a crazy goal. But really all it takes is 17 people to make a $100 donation or 34 people to make a $50 donation. I will be training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training but what is more important is making a difference in the lives of patients and their families. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
