Racing to Save Lives Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to check out my fundraising page. I'm training to participate in the Honolulu Century Ride (100 miles) endurance event on September 27, 2008 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. My goal is to raise the money by July 1, 2008. If you are unable to make a donation, maybe you know someone who will. Please pass this along to all of your friends! Come back and visit my web site often to check on my progress. Thanks for your support! Donations In Memory /Honor of: George Cartwright Andy Allen John Burr (if you have someone you would like to donate in memory/honor of, email me at lisa.posevina@gmail.com and I will update the list.) Our honored teammate, Andy Allen, is the child of one of our teammates, Luetta & Tim Allen. When Luetta recounts their first visit to Texas Children’s Hospital and Andy’s diagnosis of A.L.L. Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia at the age of 2, one of the only good memories of that day was being greeted by someone from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which not only provided information on the disease but offered much needed emotional support. Andy is now 4 years old and currently in remission— woohoo! He is in his last year of a 3.5 year chemotherapy protocol. Click this link to see his picture and read more about him: http://www.teamintraining.org/chapter/txg/doc/1372162/htcycle Donation Facts: 1. Donations are 100% tax deductible. 2. 75 percent of the Society's expenditures directly advance our mission. 3. Check with your company and see if they match contributions! Make ever dollar count. :) (For those Baker people, the company will match a donation of $100 or more.) Where Does the Money Go? 1. Research 2. Patient Services Program 3. Advocacy Program 4. Professional Education Program What Will My Donation Cover? * A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options. * A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members. * A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures. * A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team. This "recovery ride" was nice and incorporated some crusing and intervals. 08/30/08: Rode 82 miles in Magnolia and Anderson just over 5 hours. It wasn't nearly as hot as last week. 08/26/08: Rode 21 miles ta the loop today. I started off doing intervals then just cruised the last half. 08/23/08: Rode 71 miles in Bellville today. We were delayed about an hour due to the fog which made they day pretty long. My new pedals really help with my IT band. Top speed today was 37 mph! Whee! 08/18/08: I did spin class today. It's been a while since I've gone, but I felt like mixing things up a bit. 08/12/08: It rained today, so I rode on the trainer for half an hour. I'm keeping it easy this week since I'll be racing in a triathlon this Sunday. 08/09/08: Rode 60 miles in Magnolia this morning. This ride was in the opposite direction of the previous Magnolia ride. Nguyen, Brent and I had a good paceline going which really helped for that last 5 miles. My new adjustments to my bike really alleviated my IT band pain. 08/02/08: Rode 46 miles at Chappell Hill this morning. This was our toughest ride so far. The last few hills were killer, but we all made it through. :) 07/29/08: Rode 20 miles at the Memorial Picnic Loop tonight. Main focus for tonight was speed intervals. 07/26/08: Rode 60 miles in Magnolia this morning. Riding time was just under 4 hours. This was the most beautiful ride so far. :) 07/19/08: Rode for 41 miles on the trainer today. Since I'm in Lousiana for work I missed the team ride. 07/13/08: Rode for 12 miles during a sprint triathlon today. It was great. I'll be going out of town for work for two weeks so I'll be missing some practices. My ITB is feeling much better now! 07/09/08: Rode for 15 miles on the trainer tonight. I've been off the bike for a week to try to let my inflammation of my iliotibial band (ITB) to get better. Hopefully I will be back training with the team soon. 06/27/08: Rode for 31 miles in Austin with Andrew along 360 and some other streets of which I don't remember the names. Riding in the middle of the day was probably not the gretaest idea, but at least I got a ride in when I was out of town. :) Heat + hills + newbie != good! 06/24/08: Rode for 20 miles at Memorial Park. We practiced some inteverals, and didn't get rained on this week! 06/21/08: We rode a 35 mile loop out in Katy this morning. We have a little pack of 5 or so of us that average 17-18 mph. Today we practiced our pace line. 06/17/08: Rode for 12 miles at Memorial tonight before it started to pour down raining. We all got completely soaked! Good times... 06/14/08: Rode for 32 miles in Pearland today. Apparently the leading group should study the maps BEFORE the ride so we know where we are going! We missed one of our turns and ended up lost, or were we just taking the scenic route?? 06/12/08; Installed aero bars on my bicycle. I rode around a little bit to try to get adjusted. This may take a while before I feel comfortable. 06/07/08: The team met at Memorial Park today. The coaches went over bike maintenance. Afterwards we attended a party for all the honored teammates at Dave and Busters. 06/04/08: Rode 12 miles today with Tim after my softball game. We went exploring around some roads around the north side of town. 06/01/08 Got chased by three large black dogs today when I was turning around on Gessner Road....enough said! 5/31/08: Today the team went over some safety issues. We took a few group pictures, shared our stories, then went to the Keenan's house in spring for a pool party. The weather was great. 5/26/08: Rode 18 miles today with Tim and Lyndon. 5/24/08: Cycle team met out at Bike Barn in Katy today. We went over all the parts of the bicycles as well as gear. Afterwards we went to coach Wardo and Kathryn's house for some fundraising info and yummy burgers....next week starts our real practice. 5/17/08: Rode for 12 miles today...weather was really nice! 5/11/08: First day to try out my new bike. We rode about 10 miles and it seemed like the headwind was coming at us no matter which direction we rode. :p |
