Racing to Save Lives
5.06.09 I have committed to completing the Dublin Marathon on October 26, 2009 (my first marathon!) in honor of all individuals battling blood cancer. More specifically I am doing this in memory of my aunt Mary King Lyon, one of the best people I've ever known. She passed away last fall due to complications with Leukemia. I am also participating in honor of Maya Cid, our honored teammate. Maya is 2 years old and was just diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).
I want to do anything I can to help others from losing the people that they love to blood cancers. Enter the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). Not only do the funds raised go towards research to find a cure, but the LLS also assists the families and patients affected by blood cancers by giving to them directly.
I will be posting regular updates on this website. Training begins in just a few days - yikes! I'm terrified of running 26.2 miles. I'm even more terrified of trying to raise my goal of $6,700. But in comparison to fighting for your life, these are little hurdles and I know they can be done... with your help and support!! No donation is too big or too small!!!
Please also visit my personal blog: http://taraintraining.blogspot.com/
How Your Donation Helps
$5 ... covers a patient's copay during treatment for antibiotics, antidepressants, antiviral and antifungal drugs
$12 ... pays for a patient's parking cost for one day at M.D. Anderson, the leading Houston-area cancer center
$13 ...covers the 20% copay on a month's supply of Gleevec, an oral molecularly-targeted chemotherapy drug funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
$25 ...provides patients and their loved ones with free booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and helps them make informed decisions about their treatment options
$50 ... makes Family Support groups possible with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members
ANY DONATION PUTS US ONE STEP CLOSER TO A CURE!!!
If you prefer to make a donation with a check, please make the check out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or LLS and send it to :

Thought for the Day
5.12.09
I saw this quote on the AIDS Ride fundraising website and really liked it.
I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.
