Robert J. (Bob) Cunius Sr., 79, died on Thursday morning, October 25, at his home in Wilmington, N.C. after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his wife and best friend of 51 years, Lois V. (Adam) Cunius.

He is also survived by his sons Robert J. Cunius Jr. of Olney, MD, John A. Cunius of Wilmington, NC, Michael A. Cunius of Houston, TX, daughter Jacqueline A. Tekesh of Little River, SC, sister Joan Rightley, and 10 grandchildren.

Bob was born in Camden, NJ to Charles and Catherine Cunius. In his early years, he lived in Maple Shade, NJ before moving to Chicago for two years. In 1940, he moved with his family to Philadelphia where he lived until graduating from St. Thomas Moore Catholic Boys High School. In 1951 Bob joined the US Navy and served four years, including the Korean War. He also had stops in Japan, Europe, and Alaska before being honorably discharged in 1955.

Upon returning to Philadelphia, Bob enrolled at Villanova University. He graduated with a BS in Economics in 1959. The following year he married Lois, the love of his life.

After a long and distinguished career in computing at RCA, Univac, and Control Data, Bob and Lo decided that it was time to enjoy the ocean. With all of the kids out of the house, they decided to move to Wilmington, NC. The ocean was something he enjoyed all of his life and it was time to live near the water.

Bob was an avid golfer, and was a long time member of Lakewood Country Club in Maryland, and Landfall Country Club in North Carolina. His fifty year dream came true on March 13th, 2004, where he recorded his first and only hole in one.

Bob was a family man. He was strong, caring, and never complained. He will missed, but we are comforted knowing he is in a better and more comfortable place. We love you.
