The girls have been wanting to have a lemonade stand to help in our money raising efforts. Since the weather was going to be beautiful this weekend, we decided today would be a great day for it. We had a great turnout! Story, Cadence and I made dog treats this morning to go along with the lemonade. The girls made signs letting everyone know what we were doing. We raised $265.00! The girls worked very hard and we are so proud of them! Special thanks to our East Nashville neighbors!
On Saturday, Devon and I did our longest run ever- 10 miles! It is hard to belive how far we have come in such a short time! It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. We had our first ice baths. That was quite an experience! It did help a lot, though.
We're just a month away from raceday! Can't wait!
Thanks to all for your support- we really appreciate it!
We run for Kylie!
I remember the day Kylie was diagnosed. Story and Cadence were in the hallway bowling when she came over to join them. I started talking to her grandmother and she told me Kylie had just been diagnosed with leukemia. It took me back to our day of diagnosis. I knew exactly what they were going through. I knew the feeling of the unknown that they were experiencing. I will never forget that day. When Kristy, Kylie's mom, came walking out into the hallway. Kylie looked up at her and pointed at Story, "Mama, she has leukemia just like I do." Inside I was saying, "No, don't tell your mom that!" There in that hallway stood little bald headed Story. Her mom was not ready to group her child with these little bald girls and my heart ached for her because I knew her baby girl was now "one of them."
From Kristy, Kylie's mom:
Kylie turned 7 in September. She fell the week before her birthday and hurt her knee, and that's when it all began. The knee became severe pain for 10 weeks, she had a fever off and on for 7 weeks, and facial swelling for 5 weeks. I could not get the doctor to understand how bad it was. It was not until we ended up at Vanderbilt and they drew blood; then it was a terrible whirlwind.
Kylie was diagnosed on Dec 1 with Pre B Cell ALL. The induction phase of chemo failed to bring a complete remission, so she was placed on a high risk chemo protocol. She had a bone marrow biopsy on Friday to see if she is in remission yet, so they can move forward as planned. Kylie is doing very good. She is back to herself with just a few stumbling blocks from the chemo. She has a few bad days, but bounces back well.
She loves to sing and dance, which is how she spends her time when she feels good. She spends her time playing with her sister with play doh and paint. She seems to rather collect toys than to play with them. She loves the color turquois blue, and now orange, thanks to the leukemia ribbon. Kylie misses her school very much, but they remain a constant support, and she has the best principle in the world. She loves to play t-ball, and this will be the first year since she was 3 that she won't get to play. She loves ballet and Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift. She thinks she is a tomboy, but she dresses all glamorous. She has a super big crush on Dr. Carrol, and he did the Bieber dance for her, and made her crush even worse, lol! She has a boyfriend named Jacob, whom is marrying her when they are 29. She loves church and has unwaivering faith...she is so brave and never complains about a thing, unless she has an extra poke...then nurse Kelly has to work some magic in comforting her. She is a talented artist and songwriter.
Please keep Kylie and her family in your thoughts.
Remember, our deadline has been extended to April 1st, so please help us reach our goal by donating today!
We run for Isaac Baker
From Emily, Isaac's mom:
Isaac is 6 years old, he loves doing anything with his brothers ~ that means playing outside, riding his bike, having a go on his little motorcycle, and he loves anything lego. He is the fifth of eight children. He has 2 big brothers, 2 little brothers, 2 big sisters, and a new little baby sister ~ he is really proud of her and is caught holding her every chance he gets.
He was diagnosed with Leukemia in July of last year. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital and has been going in for chemo treatments almost every week since. He didn't have to have a bone marrow transplant but he will be having chemotherapy for the 2 and 1/2 more years. He has done really well with being able to stay home and if he is having a hard time at home, we all just try to keep him comfortable and entertained ~ there is no shortage of loving brothers and sisters to love on him. He will have his last dose of chemo this next Tuesday before he moves onto his Maintenance phase ~ meaning a phase in which he will still receive chemo, but we will only have to go into Vanderbilt once a month!!! Wooo hooo!!!
Way to go, Isaac! What a great family.
Our March 11th deadline for donations is Friday! Please donate now! Your money will help kids like Isaac and their families as they navigate through the most difficult journey of their lives. You can make a difference! Donate now!
Thank you for the donations! For those of you who haven't donated, please do it now! If all of our Facebook friends donate just $5, we would be well beyond our goal. JUST FIVE DOLLARS! Just enter the amount you wish to donate in the "Other" field on the right side of the page. Five dollars from one person isn't much, but five dollars from a few hundred people will really help in the fight against blood cancers!
Christy and I turned in another 5 mile run on Saturday. We both felt good, but I'm still dealing with issues in my left foot/ankle. I'm going to a PT on Friday to try to get it figured out. This morning we ran 3 miles. We'll do another 3 on Thursday, then 6 on Saturday. Our training is going well, and we are getting very excited about race weekend.
Thanks again to all of you who have donated. You're making a difference!
