Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team in Training home page!
I'm training to participate in the Country Music 1/2 Marathon again this year with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training. All members of Team in Training are raising money to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of a young lady named Katie and in memory the millions who have lost their lives in this battle. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My Inspiration to Run!
As a high school assistant principal for the past ten years, my life has been hugely impacted by my students. Of those thousands of students who have passed through our hallways, one wonderful young lady named Katie stands-out above the rest. I have known Katie for four years and each time I see her face, her story brightens my heart with hope. As a school leader and a parent, I am forced to action by Katie's story.
At 12 years old Katie was a typical, loving, athletic young lady with mounds of energy. On the surface she was a typical, all-American girl! Then one day she felt sick. Sickness led to appointments and appointments led to a diagnosis... Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her world quickly changed as her days moved from playgrounds to the hospital. While receiving treatment she met many other children suffering from this disease and heard the private stories of their families. She learned how some parents had tragically lost their jobs as they left home to stay at the hospital with their children. It wasn't long before Katie started asking questions and the answers drove her to make a difference in their lives. Read more about Katie's inspiring story and how from a hospital bed she started "Katie's Helping Hands" by visiting her website at www.katieshelpinghand.com. It will only take a few minutes for you to see why raising money to fight Leukemia is so close to my heart. Katie's story is truly inspiring and has earned her national recognitions. Katie is now in remission, changing the world, and preparing to graduate from high school in May! The world is truly a better place with Katie in it!
I can't imagine waking one morning to the sudden nightmare that Katie and her family experienced. In addition, I can't imagine any child having the drive and compassion that Katie had in her situation. As a result of knowing Katie, I am committed to doing all I can to remind others of this disease and raising money to aide in research. Though a few dollars here and there seem insignificant, they aren't. It is what is needed to help these children and their families.
Thanks You!
Thank you to all who participated in our first family fundraiser this season in Hazel, KY. With your help "Pictures with Santa" and general donations raised $1,500 for LLS and produced over 800 pounds of groceries for Needline of Murray, KY. THANK YOU! A special thanks to my step-dad Scooter Paschall who spends MONTHS creating such a wonderful display each Christmas and to all the family who donated their time for this fundraiser!
Please consider a donation!
I hope you will visit my web site often to read updates and track my progress. My personal goal is cross the finish line in the April 2010 1/2 marathon having raised $2,000 to battle this disease. Your donation for amounts as small as $1 could help advance my progress. Please consider a small donation on this site!
