Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
On July 3, 2006, my son Evan was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma. He was two and a half years old. The doctor told us Burkitt's was among the fastest growing malignancies and that only 100 cases are diagnosed in children in the USA each year.
Evan had emergency surgery to remove the tumor from his bowel and started chemotherapy right away. Luckily, his tumor was found very early and he completed his treatment within 6 weeks of diagnosis. At this time he is in remission and his cancer is not expected to recur. We are so very grateful to his doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
I'm training to participate in the Disney half-marathon on January 10, 2009, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. The Team has raised 900 million dollars over the past 20 years.
I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, including my dear friend Marion, and my little friends, Presley and Brooke, and in memory of 5 year old Mathew. I am also running in honor of my father who has spent the past 40 years treating lymphoma patients from around the world. These people are the real heroes on our team!
David and I could never have gotten through that terrible summer without the amazing support of our family, friends, and colleagues. Now I am asking for your help once again. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
