Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
I want to share a story, from my Aunt Ellen, who I am honoring my run to:
"My hodgkins disease was found as a small lump by my collar bone when I was 8 months pregnant with Matt. After delivering Matt by emergency c section, a month later I was hospitalized with a brutal staging laprotomy surgery for a week and then sent home to recover and receive treatments. Those were very hard things to deal with for all of us, especially having such a little baby. My prognosis was always good since I found it early, had I not been under the docs care for the baby, I may have waited a lot longer to have it looked at. Since it was in stage 2, my odds were good. The treatments however nearly did me in. Matt will be 21 next month and we all still survive. There have been more bumps along the way, 6 years ago with the breast cancer, but I am a poster child for early detection. Last spring I had a total hysterectomy because I had cysts in ovaries and other yuck. Instead of taking it out piece by piece and enduring another bout of long proceedures, the doc thought the total was best since I'd just be back in some time anyway. My family has helped me recover from 13 cancer and reconstruction surgeries. Without their love and support I would'nt stand a chance. I live a very simple life, not at all extravagant and for the most part it is paycheck to paycheck but we are rich in so many ways."
The stories that I hear like this are the reason I am participating in this run. People say they want to save lives and I am no different. I want to say that I helped saved that persons life, whoever it may be, by donating myself as well as fundraising. It is our money and time that we donate to LLS that is saving lives and increasing the quality of life.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

We are officially one month into our training for our half marathon and officially 4 months away from our actual race. It's been great training so far and I am looking forward to crossing the finish line with my fellow teammates. The experience itself has been so inspirational. I know by doing this race and the fundraising to go with it, that i'm giving those who are fighting a blood cancer a chance at life. I believe we are each other's heros. Listening to the stories of cancer survivors sends chills up my spine and by the end of their story, i am nearly in tears. I hope you all support the LLS Team in Traning cause by donating today. All donations are tax-deductible and it only takes a minute to donate online.
Thanks for your support!!!

A new year, a continued fight. It felt as if time stood still for a coulple of weeks but i'm off to a brand new start. Fundraising is picking back up and people are as generous as ever, although I am still less over 50% from my goal of $1200. The fight for a cure is as important as ever. More and more people are continuing to be diagnosed with a form of blood cancer. Will my list of honorees ever stop? It will, one day. With your help, we can find that cure and those treatments! We can provide patients with all the necessary information they need to fight on. Funding is the most important aspect of our cause. Without the money, we wouldn't be able to provide research for those treatments and cures. Ernie, a close friend to my mother-in-law, just found out a few days ago that he has Leukemia. An unfortunate time, especially during the holidays. Please help show your support for him, perhaps for loved ones you know who are diagnosed, or even for a stranger. They all need you. Donate today!
With Love,
Adrian
