I'm TNT! Help me win the fight!

Fighting Blood Cancers One Dollar and One Mile at a Time.

Hello everyone! Welcome to my Team In Training donation page.

* Every 5 minutes someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer.

* Every 10 minutes someone dies from it.

* Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20.

Help put a stop to these scary statistics by donating to my fundraising page.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my efforts to help support the Leukmia and Lymphoma Society. I made my goal thanks to all of your help. Hilary and I completed the Nike Women's Half Marathon and raised over $8500.

I'm joining the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma by raising $4200 and training for the Nike Women's Half-Marathon in San Francisco. I'm doing this as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training program. All of us in Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing the half-marathon in honor of those who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

I started running a little over a year ago as a challenge to myself. The thought of running, especially in a 5k, was terrifying, but I wanted to prove that I could in fact do it. A year later, I've been converted into a full-fledged runner. So here I am, taking on a new challenge of running 13.1 miles, a distance I've never done before and raising a whole lot of money for the LLS.

The drug Gleevec is an example of how funds raised through Team in Training are helping patients with CML, a type of Leukemia. Gleevec is a molecularly targeted treatment for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) – a cancer that, before Gleevec, had at least an 85% death rate. Gleevec is a drug that uses cancer cells to attack other cancer cells found in a body while not destroying healthy cells.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helps fund research into more advances like Gleevec, and helps cover the cost of care for patients who can’t afford it.

I need to have the funds raised by SEPTEMBER 26th!

Please make a donation (it's tax deductible!) to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Even the smallest donation helps!

Check out my blog girl gone running for updates on my fundraising and training progress, as well as this fundraising site.

Also, please pass the link to this site along to ALL of your friends.

Thanks for your support!

The winner of the $50 gas card is Tom and Rita Brown. Thanks for your support and donation!

Updates on our progress:

September 15th:

Charge day is getting close! Hilary and I have been working hard and have raised just over $6000 so far with a little more than $2000 to go. NOW is the time to donate. We have a couple fundraisers in the works, like another Chickfila Night, selling Charly's Cookies (dog biscuits) and a Yoga for Runners class. We also ran 12 miles on Saturday and will be doing 13, just .10 shy of the full half-marathon on Sunday.

August 27th:

We had our final yard sale and raised nearly $300. We're slowly making progress and hopefully our Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night and balloon pop raffle with be a big boost in the fundraising department. Hilary and I ran our 10 miles in the Florida heat on Sunday and it nearly kicked my butt. It was like running in a sauna, but it felt so rewarding once it was over!

August 10th:

I did it! We did it. I made it past the first big hurdle of raising the initial $1050. On Wednesday I mailed in my recommitment papers and there's no backing out now. I'm going to SanFran. Together Hilary and I have raised $2023, which is so great, but still only 1/4 of the way there. I'm looking forward to this next month when training is going to be a lot tougher (long runs of 12 and 13 miles!) and we have a bunch of fundraising events planned!

July 27th:

W have raised $1569. We're nearing our first big milestone, which means we need to have $2100 jointly raised by August 8th, which is just two weeks away! Next weekend we are volunteering at a triathlon and also kicking off a raffle for $50 gas card. This weekend was spent planning future fundraisers for August/September, such as a balloon pop raffle at Chick-Fil-A and another yard sale.

Together we've also run about 200 miles in our training efforts with our longest run being around 8 miles this past weekend. Then next weekend we are scheduled to run our first 10 mile long run, the first time with double digit mileage!

July 15th:

As of right now, I have a grand total of $622 raised and I'm $388 away from my recommitment goal, which is August 8th. I am sure that I'll be able to get the remaining money by then. Hopefully Hilary will also have no problem making her part of the goal. I'm doing another yard sale/bake sale on Saturday, so wish me luck!

Also, we ran an easy long run of 6 miles on Saturday, but we need to ramp it up to 8 miles this upcoming weekend. I've never run that far before except for the 15k that I did, so that will definitely be a big challenge.

June 21st:

We have raised $830 and need to raise $2100 by August 8th. Our first fundraiser of the yard sale/bake sale was an huge success.

We're having a second yard sale/bake sale but it'll be July 19th in Orlando. If you have anything you'd like to donate just let us know or better yet, come and check things out at the sale.

Together we've also run about 150 miles in our training efforts with our longest run being around 6 miles to date.
