Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am participating in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training., more specifically I am going to run the Rock N' Roll 1/2 Marathon in November here in San Antonio.
A lot of you are probably reading this in shock, as everyone knows extreme physical activity is not my forte. However, after seeing my wife Erin (2 Marathons and a half marathon), sister-in-law Taylor (100 Mile Bike Ride), and father-in-law Greg (many many marathons and half marathons) participate in Team In Training events, I have been inspired to give it a go myself.
However, the true source of inspiration for me to do this is to honor the memory of my sister-in-law Brionne Clary who do to complications with Leukemia and Lymphoma I was never able to meet. By all accounts Brionne was an amazing young woman who was taken from this world much too soon at the age of 20. Family members often recall her smile and strength regardless of the adversity life dealt to her. Though I may never have physically met her, in many ways I feel like I have. She holds a very special place in my heart. She is the person from whom my beautiful daughter takes one of her names. In a very meaningful way, this run is away for me to connect with my sister-in -law who I never met. So to all that are able to donate, thank you and please know that beyond my getting in better shape and meeting the challenge of a half-marathon, I will be running with a much greater purpose. I know my sister-in-law will be right there with me every step of that 13.1 miles. So, not only will I be running for Brionne, but more importantly I will be running with Brionne and in doing so she and I together will be creating some of our own new memories to share.
