Stacey's Racing to Save Lives Web Site

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

Recently, I made a commitment to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in their fight against cancer by joining their Team in Training (TNT). As a member of TNT, I am training to participate in the San Antonio Rock "n" Roll 1/2 Marathon on November 16, 2008. I am training to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. I think about how cancer has affected my family and friends and I want to do something to help fight this disease. I am running in memory of two family members affected by lymphoma and leukemia. Danny's grandmother, Marguerite DeKinder, battled lymphoma and his grandfather, Reford Bailey, had leukemia. I am honored to run for these brave heroes.

TNT's primary goal is to raise funds for blood cancer research, public education and patient aid programs.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

I have committed myself to raise $2000 by December 15th, 2008. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. All donations are 100% tax deductible and any amount is greatly appreciated.

You can donate online by following the options on the left side of the website. You can also donate cash or check payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please mail any donations to the following address:

UPDATE!!!!!!

11-16-08

RACE DAY!! I made it...13.1 miles. It was great. I ran with my friend Polly Garcia and we finished in 2 hours and 30 minutes. What a thrill. I'm ready for the next one.

Thank you to my family, friends, and co-workers who supported me these past few months. I could not have done this without you. Our South Texas Team in Training Chapter raised over $500,000 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

11-4-08

Election night! I got in almost 4 miles thanks to my husband getting home early. I'm hoping to put in a few more good workouts over the next week and taper off a little before the run on Nov. 16th. Thank you to everyone supporting me. It is not too late to make a donation or wish me good luck. :)

10-26-08

I made it 10 miles yesterday in 2 hours and 5 minutes!! That will be the longest training run before the event on Nov. 16. My hips are sooo sore. I took an ice bath for the first time and that really helped. I'll be doing some nice hour long runs this week to keep my legs strong. At least that is the plan. Thanks again for your support.

10-16-08

CVS employees are AWESOME!! Thank you to Abi for her support and generating awareness among my fellow co-workers. I'm hearing from so many people she contacted....I owe her big time.

Looking forward to a hill workout tonight and a 7 mile run this weekend. We'll drop down a few miles before building to 10 miles soon. Stay tuned.

10-12-08

I made it 9 miles yesterday!! Whoo hoo! I'm feeling it today. I really had a nice run. I think it took me about 1 hr. 40 min.. I know it's slow, but my goal is to finish. I've been running with a wonderful new freind, Polly. We keep each other moving.

I'm fundraising today at Gattiland and hope to have a good turnout. Again, thank you for all the support.

10-2-08

I can't believe I haven't posted an update in 2 months. I'm still training for the half-marathon and working on my fundraising. Last week was our longest run so far at 8 miles!! This week we fall back a bit down to 6 miles and we'll work up to 10 in a few short weeks.

Thank you all for your continued support. I've been battling the flu and strep throat and taking care of sick kiddos as well. I admit my training has been on the back burner and my milage is lacking. However, I'm hanging in there and looking forward to a great run this Saturday. I'm looking forward to hill training tomorrow.

8-5-08

Thank you to everyone who is supporting my efforts. I am almost half way to my goal. We have a recommitment party next week and I'm doing good enough to continue my training and fundraising. I just need some creative ideas. Any suggestions??

This Sat. is another 5 mile run. I need to get in a solid hour of running and some hill training in the next few days to help make that run easier.

7-31-08

I have been training for a little over a month and I'm having a great time. We're up to 5 miles this week and I'm actually looking forward to the team run on Saturday.

Our training consists of various workouts throughout the week. We usually start the week with hill training and cross training on Mon. and Tues.. Wed. are plyometrics--whoever thought I'd be doing those again!! Thurs. I rest and get up early for Fri. morning run. We can do these workouts with the team or on your own. I usually only meet for the Sat. team runs but I like to make the other team workouts whenever possible.

I want to thank all of you who have supported me in my efforts. I keep you all in mind and I'm having a great time. I'll start posting updates and info. more often so you can keep up with me.
