Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

In the past I was running for the thrill of the race and the desire to support a worthy cause. Since I didn’t have a personal connection with anyone with blood cancers, I always felt as though I was running for the future. With one out of three people affected by cancer on a daily basis, I was sure I would have a connection someday.

In the first week of June the future became the present for my family. My Aunt Colleen has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Aunt Colleen is an incredibly active 48 year-old with two daughters, seventeen and thirteen. My heart broke, knowing that their lives have been changed forever. Currently Colleen is undergoing weekly treatments of a anti-biotic that takes about six hours to complete. Her prognosis is good because they have caught it early and she is young and active. The treatment wipes her out a bit, but generally she can go about her daily activities without a problem at this point.
