August 28:

Only $18 away from reaching my fundraising goal!!! I have the best friends, family, friends' families, and community support anyone could ask for...

From the bottom of heart- THANK YOU : )

August 27:

I accomplished the most mileage I've ever ran in my life: 20 miles! It's also the most I will run before the full marathon in 3 weeks. I was really feeling guilty about letting up on training, and went into Saturday with hopes to do the 20, but thinking I'd only get the 12 done. Because of the amazing coaches, mentors, and my inspiration of what the Galloways have been going through, I pushed myself not to quit. I finished 20 miles, and I will finish the full 26.2 : )

August 22:

While I am training for this event with TNT and raising money for LLS, my point in doing this was to push myself beyond what I've known and ever done before. I also wanted to do something positive for others, while gettingmy volleyball team involved in something positive to show our support for the Galloway family. Every dollar raised is one step towards finding a CURE for CANCER.

"The pancreas is an organ located in the upper middle of the abdomen. It is surrounded by the stomach, small intestine, liver and spleen. Pancreatic cancer occurs when there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the pancreas or ducts. The exact cause of pancreatic cancer is still largely unknown, but certain factors are known as risk factors. The following factors are known to increase the risk of developing pancreatic cancer: age, gender, race, cigarette smoking, diet, diabetes, environment and family history.

Pancreatic cancer has been understudied in both basic research laboratories and the clinic. In terms of total research dollars, total numbers of researchers, and numbers of researchers who are highly focused on this disease, pancreatic cancer lags significantly behind"

Check out the Hirshberg Foundation's website for more information about pancreatic cancer: http://www.pancreatic.org/

August 19:

I am 4 weeks away from race day, and I can't be more excited/nervous! I am also only $600 away from meeting my fundraising goal, which is maybe the most exciting part. I am so lucky to have had the help and support of my volleyball teams, not to mention my friends and family whom have all been so generous!

Training has been the hardest part lately, as my schedule does not leave much room for long runs multiple times a week. I have also started to get tendonitis in my left knee (which was a fear I had since it's my ACL knee) But it definitely hasn't stopped me from training. I have just come to terms with the fact that I will probably only be able to do the Half, which was my first intention to begin with, and to be honest- is quite a feat for me still. I am determined to do a full now that I know I could, if I just had more time to train properly (ie: not a schedule of working full-time, coaching volleyball, finishing my Masters, and training for a marathon/fundraising) I am going to push myself these next 4 weeks though, and I am so excited to get out to San Francisco to experience my first race : )

Peave, Love, and Running.

August 8:

So I ended up sleeping through my alarm and missing Saturday's big run with the TNT crew. I'm not one to place blame, but I think having both my phone and car die in the same week has had a little something to do with it! I will say though, I have really slacked this past week by not getting out for a run, and it makes me feel so guilty! But that's life I guess, sometimes we fall off the horse, and the only thing we can do is jump right back on. I went for a run tonight, and it was not as easy as it was last Monday. I was disappointed in myself, but also glad I made myself get out and go (because I was NOT in the mood, that's for sure!). It's been a stressful week, but that's exactly when you have to push yourself to do more, because in the end, you're doing it for yourself.

August 6:

Last Saturday was one of the hardest, but most rewarding days I've had. Running 12 miles has never happened, or even come close to happening in my life. While there were times I wanted to stop, whine, maybe cry (it hurt, man!), I didn't. I pushed through that initial wall, and once we got past it I was golden. Just going through the motions is something I am learning to handle. I knew the mental aspect of running was going to be the hardest part of training for me. When I am running, it's not that my feet hurt too bad, or I'm too out of breath- it's the shear fact that I can stop at anytime. I don't HAVE to run, I don't HAVE to keep going.... but pushing myself to do so is what I'm fighting, and slowly, accomplishing.

Monday night I went for a 5 mile run and have never found a long distance run as easy as that was...

July 30:

Here's a recent story from the Rocky Mountain TNT Chapter...

"Myself and the rest of the Rocky Mountain Chapter Cycling Team were returning from Lake Tahoe and America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride in early June. We were pleasantly surprised to meet our Marathon Team on a connecting flight in Las Vegas as they were returning from the San Diego Rock 'N Roll Marathon the same weekend.

The next day our chapter office received the following e-mail:

My name is Ernie Brady and my wife and I were on Southwest flight# 1295 from Las Vegas to Denver on Monday night, June 7, 2010. The cabin attendant announced that the Team in Training was on the flight and explained some of what they were doing to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research.

I was diagnosed with Leukemia in Dec 06 and went through two chemotherapy sessions of just under one month each in the hospital and then one more for a bone marrow transplant that I received in April 07. Although it was a difficult few years, I have from the beginning been amazed at what our medical community can do for people like me. They are able to do it because people like you and the Team in Training go way out of their way to raise funds for research, and that research has brought me through my illness and kept me alive. I was extremely moved to see the Team in Training people on that flight show so much enthusiasm and joy, even though they must have been so tired from all they did that weekend. I should have personally thanked them right then and there, but I'm not very outgoing, and I held back.

I would now like to thank each and every person who is involved with the Team in Training program, for you have helped to keep me alive. I have been able to spend countless hours and hopefully years to come with my family and friends, time that I wouldn't have had if not for you! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you, and may God bless you all.

In His Hands,

Ernie Brady

We all do Team in Training for various reasons. This is one of the best.

GO TEAM!!!"

12 miles in the morning... I just can't wait to be able to say I DID it.

July 7:

Tonight was the hottest day of the summer as of yet. But, it was the best I've felt running thus far! I am gaining confidence, endurance, and the mental strength to push through these hard runs. My Car Wash for Cancer raised over $200 in just two hours on Monday, and I look forward to getting the Wyoming community more involved. So much to look forward to, so much improvement left, and so much more fundraising to accomplish! : )

June 24:

We ran 40 minutes in the BLAZING heat last night... I don't think I've ever sweat so much in my life! Afterwards, I spent a while talking to a teammate who is an arm amputee, and is training to run the Nike Women's Marathon. Needless to say, she is quite an inspiration!

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of Julie Galloway, and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
