2013!! I can't believe that I am doing it again. This is going to be my third event with TNT! Yes I know that some of you out still think that I am crazy, but if you had the chance to meet the group of people that I have met and heard the inspirining stories about our heroes than you wouldn't stop either.
Last year I ran the Flying Pig Full Marathon in May and the Nationwide Children's Hospital Half Marathon in October. Between the two events I was able to raise $2000!! My goals this year are to again run the Flying Pig Marathon in May and the Nike Women's Full or Half Marathon (I haven't decided yet) in October.
Read more about my inspiration for running with TNT below from last year's webpage. A short summary: Other than my desire to run and be fit, meeting Maya Collins last year at the 2012 Flying Pig send off dinner motivates me to keep running. This beautiful little angle brought tears to my eyes as she talked about her exerience with Leukemia. She said (paraphrasing): There are some good things to getting cancer 1. My familly has gotten very close. 2. I get to go to Disney World. 3. And, I don't have to blow dry my hair. Maya's exuberance and strength brought a smile to my face. Her story is inspriational.
This is Maya on Valentine's Day. She was able to spend an hour to celebrate with her classmates.
Home for the holidays.
Your can learn more about Maya at her website.
This year I hope to blow that amount out of the water. So far, the event that I have planned is a 76 mile hike with my husband in the Foothills Mountains of South Carolina. I have a blog that will post updates for our hike. Pledges per mile will all go to LLS.

Together we can help fight blood cancers.
T.E.A.M.: Together Everyone Achieves More
I have always wanted to run a marathon. As a little girl, watching the thousands of runners crossing bridges in NY city, in the chilly morning air, was so exciting and profound for me. To put the human body through so much, is just amazing. I fell in love with running very young, as my mother took me to the track all the time. I became obsessed with the Olympics. Watching anything from sprinting, jumping, and long distance always captured my full attention. I drifted away from long distance when I discovered my ability as a hurdeler and jumper in high school. Always in the far back of my mind, I added running a marathon to my bucket list. Every year I say that I will get to it and some years I have even started training on my own. However, runnnig alone, has never stuck. Running is sometimes mistakenly viewed as an individualized sport. However, the support of a team is what always keeps me going. I could probably get out there this year and attmept, once again to train for the Flying Pig Marathon. I would only last a week or two. With Team in Training I will reach the end of those 26.2 miles on May 6th.
Until I began running with Team in Training, I never stopped to think about how Leukemia has impacted my life. I know that in the 1950's my Uncle Mike died from Leukemia. My mother was only in high school as her closest sibling passed away. Back then there was no hope. Little treatments existed to treat Leukemia. His death had profound lasting effects on my mother and her family. I can't help but wonder if Uncle Mike had been alive today if the advancements that The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society have helped to create would have saved his life. In the last year, Leukemia took the life of my neighbor's son-in-law, leaving children and a wife to cope with the loss. My other neighbor's father was just diagnosed with in the last year as well. Now I realize how significant Leukemia has effected my friends and family.
Meet my hero Maya Collins:
Meet 9 year old Maya Collins. In April of 2011, Maya was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a bone marrow transplant in September, and intense chemo therapy, Maya’s cancer is currently in remission! The chemo therapy has taken its toll, however, and Maya’s thyroid has stopped working properly and other organs may be at risk. I’m running for Maya, who has kept her chin up in spite of everything, and for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, who will continue to find better ways to fight cancer!

Running on May 6th will be a challenge for me, however it will never compare to the adversity and stuggles that those with Leukemia and Lymphoma experience. I run for way more now than just to accomplish a childhood goal of mine. The 26.2 miles that I run will be for Maya, Uncle Mike and Mr. Steimle. Help me to raise money to support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the amazing work that they do.
