Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

I'm training to participate in the San Diego Marathon on June 5th as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of Emilie Erickson and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. Emilie is a fifth grader in my son Mitchell's class at Baymonte and was diagnosed with Leukemia last year. She is the real hero along with all the others that are battling with blood cancers. My team and I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Your donation can be made anonymously or just your name given without an amount shown. Click on the "edit donation privacy" button and choose from there.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! Dana

Feb 5th-

First Meet with Team @ Track Soquel High School. Wasn't sure what to expect...found it to be more entertaining then anything else. I mean some of those exercises make you look kind of funny...I loved it! It was great!

Feb 10th

Thursday Night track at Soquel High School. Dark, dark, dark...lots of funny exercises for your legs. The phrase "walk like a penguin" came to mind! Getting to know the team and who's who in the Zoo was nice. We did lots of laps and lots of stretching....thank goodness for our amazing coaches..these guys rock!

Feb 12th

First Saturday distance run.....American Dream Reality 41st Ave. Seeings how I'm sighned up for the full marathon my time was to run 35min and then turn around and run 35min back. If you made it to the Crows Nest before 35min the plan was to have you turn at that point and run back. Well the Crows Nest I hit with extra time to spare....6mile run under 1 hour. What a beautiful run too. The ocean was just spectacular the view was for to love it No Fog!

Feb 17th

Not with team tonight...feeling a bit like I'm getting a cold. Rain and Wind not a good combination for maybe the start of something. Choose to stay down that night.

Feb 19th

Nisene Marks run.....The long run for the marathoners was 45min in 45min back. Hitting the 4 mile marker or 45 min would be your turn around point. Made it there and back...what a great 8 mile wet, muddy but fun run!! My shoes are finally dry.....what an amazing team. We really do look out for one another and this team really keeps you going. I love it!!

Feb 24th

Track night Soquel HS. Raining but who cares....aparently running in the rain is the thing to do. Can you say walking lunges, planks and walk like a penguin! What a fun and wet night. Go Team!

Feb 26th

"Buddy Run" meaning you can bring a buddy other than your team and run together...anyone who cares to join me sometime for the next one is welcome. Just let me know and I'll give you time and location. This "Buddy Run" was on West Cliff back entrance natural bridges to Dream Inn and back. 6 miles it was just beautiful!! Leaving the snow in Scotts Valley. Yes I said SNOW!! 2 inches.

Mar 3rd

Track Night Soquel HS....We stretch, we lap, we stretch some more and yes we lap some more. Are we warm yet coach asks.....then the fun began. Jumping Lunges, toe taping, hip cross over side run. Team running groups are assigned....I was part of the Falcon team. Go Falcons!! Timed runs at different distances and at diffrent levels of intensity. 65% for three times around to all out sprint for 1 time around. Lots of things in between. Really helps get you moving....Our Coaches ROCK!

Mar 5th

West Cliff Run With Team....10 miles Backside Natural Bridges to 3rd Ave. and Back. Good run georgious weather and lots of time to just enjoy the scenery.

Just a note of thanks to all of you that have contributed to LLS thus far. Your generosity and support you show towards this means so much to me. I know that with your generosity LLS comes that much closer to finding a thank you again. I "just keep going"....this is a little mantra I tell myself when I'm ready to give up. Taken from that crazy fish Dori from "Nemo" "just keep swimming" I changed it for running and it helps along with that smile that Emilie brings on a regular bases. She truly inspires me to "just keep going"!!

Mar 17th

Track night......Hills...what more is there to say?!

Mar 19th

Beautiful run on westcliff to upper harbor and back 12 miles...Now as far as the weather not so good! Let's just say that hail hurts as you run. The rain is one thing to run in, but hail is another. West Cliff stormy was beautiful! The Cold Water Classic surf competion was going on which made the run more entertaining. Watching all the those crazy surfers buzzing around was classic. We were all cold and wet! All and all it was a good but tough run. It showed me that even in extreme weather conditions like rain, hail, flooding and wind anything is possible if you just set your mind to it.

April 2nd

14 mile run!!! Ran it with a friend from team do to time restraints....Good run it's always nice to have company....can't say I did so well after the run. I got a little salt deprived. Yikes I don't want to ever feel like that again!!

April 10th

Santa Cruz Half Marathon...13.1 miles! Training is working because at mile 10 I felt the push to go faster and finish very strong. I felt as if I could "just keep running".

April 16th

Seaside Monterey Coastal Trail 16 mile run!! Yes 16..... It was a BEAUTIFULL run!! Gorgeous weather and strong run for worth repeating in the future.

April 23/30th

10 mile runs on my own so you might just see me out there on Scotts Valley Drive putting in those miles...If you do feel free to honk!

May 7th

Wow 18 miles I can hardly believe that I am so close to completing this chapter of my life. I never thought I'd get to this place, but with such a wonderful team and inspirational coach anything is possible! For me it has alot to do with personal drive for the benefit of others. As I ran those 18 miles I thought alot about why, what and who I am doing this for. With that on my mind each mile became easier and I became stronger. It has been so inspiring for me to do this for Emilie and all the others I now run for. Thank you for those of you who have shared with me your story on how blood cancer has invaded your life or the life of someone you love. I run for them and in memory of those that have lost their life to it. In 2 weeks I'll go for 20......

May 21st

Was not able to join team for the 20 mile run. I hava an injury and need time to heal. Track night on Thursday was a little rough so I rest while the others go! Am very bummed but I know everything happens for a reason. My spirits are up and I hope to recover quickly....

May 26th

Track night tonight....I'm doing much better, I have recovered nicely and will be joining the team tonight. As I approach the main event I am reflecting on the journey and what an amazing one it has been. To touch the lives of others is truly the gift here and I believe that each one of you that has donated has help with the research in finding a cure. Thank you, thank you, thank you......
