Running for a Cure A very dear friend of mine motivated me last year to run my first marathon - to challenge myself as I had just turned 40 - and to raise funds for the fight against blood cancers. Her brother passed away a couple years ago after a long, gallant, difficult fight against a similar cancer. I was very lucky and proud to have met him and wish that there was a cure - I also hope that for those I don't know personally, that a cure will be found to cease this difficult burden on our loved ones. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds extra research in this fight. They have been very successful by funding projects that have produced new drugs that help. There is still much more work to do and for that please give what you can. I know times are tough right now, but to have one more loved one around is priceless and important. I have the priviledge of being a Mentor on this years Spring run team. My wonderful 9 mentees are also running their first marathons. My office is also fielding some 10 or so new runners, triathletes and hikers. What started with one friend running one race two years ago is now blossoming into some 20 runners this year. And so it goes... I will keep this page updated on my progress to the finish line in San Diego on May 31st. Please check back in. Thanks for opening your wallets and cheering on the team. - Mario:-) |
