I am Racing to Save Lives!
This past year, I met Michelle Maykin. Michelle was a healthy and happy daughter, sister, and friend until she was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia. Michelle recently braved several rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant and is now back at home recovering. I have been following her story and have been truly touched and inspired by her courage.
Michelle's story hits close to home for me because not only is Michelle the same age as me and a fellow Berkeley graduate, but also because she was diagnosed with the same form of leukemia my grandfather had.
Unlike Michelle, my grandfather was not a candidate for chemo or transplant. I will never forget the hopelessness and frustration I felt when we were told by doctors that because of his age, there were no viable treament options to save him. He lost his battle to leukemia just two months after being diagnosed.
In memory of my grandfather and in honor of Michelle, I have committed to raising $2,900 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help find a cure for blood cancers.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In
Training and help find a cure!
