Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
This is my third event with Team in Training. I originally started out with TNT after I was diagnosed with asthma as a means to get in shape (I chose a triathlon as my first ever athletic event. No one ever said I was under-ly ambitious or overly smart...) and to raise money for a good cause. I went back the second time to train for my first marathon after the death of a good friend from cancer made me want to do something meaningful in his honor.
This time it is even more personal.
In February 2010, my husband was diagnosed with cancer. It was a terrifying and life altering experience, but now here we are almost a year and a half later and due to advances in cancer treatment my husband is doing well and on the road to recovery. We know the battle is not 100% over, but he has completed treatment and I could not think of a better way to honor him and give back to the people that are fighting to find a cure for cancer than to run and fundraise for the Leukemia and Lympoma Society with Team in training for another season.
I'm training to participate in the Portland Marathon. If you know me, you know that this is not my first marathon, but it is a very important marathon to me. This past year and a half has been the hardest time of my life and was punctuated with unhealthy choices on my part in response to stress and fear (those choices include, but are not limited to, more donuts than it would seem humanly possible to consume and a serious decrease in the amount of running.) I want to celebrate my husband's life and my life by returning to the sport I love.
Team In Training raises funds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, whose mission is to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. My husband does not have a blood cancer; he has prostate cancer. However, research in the treatment of cancers in any form help keep our loved ones with us and that is what this quest is about for me.
Any donation is appreciated and will help advance LLS's mission and help keep the people we love where they belong - with us.
Thank you for your support. Whether that support is financial for this event, or has been part of the overwhelming love and emotional support I have received over this past year and a half. I could not have made it though without you all.
And as always...
RUN BITCH RUN!
