TNT Kick-Off!!
May 22, 2011 by Sandi Yam

“Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something!”

Today I went to Team and Training’s Summer Season Kick-off meeting and it got me really excited to start training for the Nike’s Half. I’m training with a 50 year old Kindergarten teacher who just fought breast cancer and is now training for her 7th Half Marathon. If I had any doubt in my mind that I couldn’t run the 13 miles, those thoughts were completely put to rest after talking to this encouraging woman. Meeting my teammates like her and hearing other moving stories sum up why I decided to train with TNT.

Here is a story about Louie Bonpua, a local guy diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 32. He lived his life to the fullest and in his lifetime he trained for, entered and finished nine triathlons, one courageous step at a time. By January 2002, his condition had accelerated, but Louie pushed himself when he was asked to carry the Olympic Torch. He arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge in an ambulance and carried the torch for 0.2 miles on his own. After he passed the torch, he returned to the ambulance and made his way back to the hospital. Later that night, he slipped into a coma and two days later on January 22, 2002, Louie passed away. His perseverance to keep living life to the fullest while cancer was taking his time away is a legacy that represents all that Team in Training stands for.

I hope this story inspires you like it has inspired me. Even though the money I raise for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society won’t prevent anybody from being diagnosed with blood cancer, it will help fund research to understand and cure it. If everybody did a little to fight for something they believed in, combined with everybody else who did the same, it would make a HUGE difference!!

More updates next week!

First Update!
May 13, 2011

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!!!

Hi Family and Friends!

I just signed up to train with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to participate in The Nike Women's Half Marathon this October. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I have some tricks up my sleeve to raise the required $2500 to run this race (major garage sale, graduation leis, feather hair extensions, baseball ticket auctions, wine tasting etc.) so please please please keep checking out this site and donate! Oh ya, if you work for a big company see if they match your donation. That means extra bucks, free of cost to you!

I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Thanks for all your support!
