MILAGE

The Half Marathoners are up to doing 10 miles on their long run days. Those doing the Marathon did 20 up in WOODSIDE this last weekend--What studs the half marathoners and marathoners all are. I am sooooo impressed. Several members have had or are currently fighting through bothersome injuries as we are about a month out. However, both the half and full marathoners are definitely on track to have successful runs on Oct 16 at the Women's Nike San Francisco Half and Full Marathon.

Please Come Cheer (this means so much to us)

More meeting place details and times will be posted before Oct 16.

ABOUT OUR TEAM WITHIN A TEAM

We are a group of moms, each hoping to be a good example for our children about setting and accomplishing goals--big and little--goals of a more personal nature, as well as goals that will greatly impact the lives of others.

We are training to participate in The Women's Nike San Francisco 1/2 Marathon on October 16, 2011 as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. The Mamma Jammas are completing this event in honor of Kathy Harvey, the mom of a current second grader, who lost her own battle with cancer last year, and other individuals close to each of us, who's lives have been dramatically affected by cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure - quick!

TEAM MEMBERS

Unfortunatly, three of our MammaJamma team members have injuries that will prevent them from joining us as runners on our adventure THIS TIME (they plan to rejoin us for next year--hopefully injury free) on Oct 16. We hope they will still be there to cheer us on.

Gabrielle: Ran the Nike Women's San Francisco 1/2 Marathon before, but it has been a few years and her 1st time with Team in Training. She has run the Turkey Trot in San Jose the last two years with her son and daughter, one in 4th and one in 2nd grade.

Janae: About 10 years since she has done any serious running--other then keeping-up with her two boys--now in 4th grade and 2nd grade. Personal Honoree: Kiera, her sister, who is only 33 and was diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer June 2010.

Roberta: She has a 4th grade daughter, son in college in San Luis Obispo, and a daughter who will graduate from UCSB in June. Personal Honorees:She is running in honor of her brother, Dan Ryan, a survivor of Multiple Myeloma. He’s been struggling with this for about 6 years, and her mother-in-law, Asha Chopra. Asha passed away from a brain tumor in January 2001 when her youngest was just 4 weeks old.

Janel: She is a new parent at our school, with a pre-k child this year. Personal Honoree: Her grandmother, Caroline (Ruth) Hanson, who just passed away in December from brain cancer.

Claire: Besides recently running after her three children: one in Kindergarten, one in first grade and one a toddler at home, she ran the Marine Corp Marathon in 1999 but has not run a lot since then. Personal Honoree: She is running in honor of her dad, Don who died of Kidney Cancer when she was only 8.

Betsy: I have run a few half marathons, but this is my first with Team in Training. I have three kids, a 5th grader, a 3rd grader, and a 1st grader. I am grateful to be running with this terrific group! Personal Honoree: She is running in memory of her good friend Bonnie Tonneson who passed away from leukemia in 2007.

Regina: This is my 5th season with Team in Training. This will be my 10th Marathon. This season I'm again a Training Captain. I'm very excited and reinvigorated to be doing the Nike SF 1/2 and Full Marathon with such a great group supporting Team in Training through our fundraising. I know they will all make it across that finish line--no problem and help a great cause through all of their efforts.

My 8-year-old daughter is my personal inspiration, as well as the TNT Peninsula team members that have lost or continue to fight their personal battles with Leukemia and Amay Shaw, a 10 year (and his parents-Apurva and Purvi) and my mom (Marilyn), who I lost when I was only 18 (seems so long ago).

Support our team's participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Finding a cure for one type of cancer, like blood cancers, will help find an eventual cure for them all--we hope.

Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!
