The last day of fundraising approaches...
It's been an incredible journey during my training with TNT, and you have been with me through it all. We are 20 days away from the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco. There is much preparation that remains to be done, but there have already been many accomplishments.
About 4 weeks ago, I reached a new distance record of 16 miles. It was hot and humid during the run, but I finished all 16 miles with the help of my teammates and the honorees running the water stops. On Sunday, I completed the Mermaid Santa Cruz Duathlon. I ran 1.5 miles, biked 11 miles, and then ran another 2.5 miles. I placed 4th out of 16 in my age group and 41st out of 109 overall. I am most proud of my cycling performance that morning. I had previewed the course a few weeks before the event and the hills on the route intimidated me. But on Sunday morning, I powered through all 11 miles and finished the cycling portion in 3rd position in my age group.
With the duathlon complete, I spend this next week continuing to prepare for Levi Leipheimer's King Ridge GranFondo, which will take place on Saturday, October 3. I am registered for the Piccolo Fondo , which will cover 36 miles with 1,100' of climbing. I am thrilled to be participating in this great ride. Since it is so close to the half marathon and is not a race, I will not be participating to win, but merely to enjoy the experience and and opportunity to cycle in an area that promises to be spectacular alongside some professional cyclists.
And after the GranFondo it is only a short two weeks until the half marathon, the main event and focus of my training and fundraising. On Sunday, October 18 I will run 13.1 miles in San Francisco in a race that promises to be spectacular. Each one of you will be with me as I cross the finish line.
Thank you for all of your support during these past several months. I am encouraged by your generosity and kindness. The last day of fundraising is Thursday, October 1. If you have considered giving, this is the time.
