Racing to Save Lives
While doing my fund raising this spring, in my mom's honor, I discovered that a colleague of mine, Susan Asbjornsen, is battling leukemia. Since I have an honoree who is still going through treatment I have decided to continue raising funds. I will walk the Nike Half Marathon on October 18th in Susan's honor. My mom is doing really well and now I want to support Susan as she heals.
Lymphoma took the lives of my husband's uncle and grandfather many years ago. Leukemia took the life of a friend's father when we were still in our 20s. And too many children fight leukemia every year. No child should have to grow up in the hospital and no parent should have to say goodbye to a five-year-old.
Let's find a cure and non-invasive treatments to save the lives of these children.
My mother and my friend are both incredibly strong and positive women. Mom will live many more years because of effective drugs such as Rituxan, which was discovered in the last 20 years, thanks to research funded by LLS. And Susan is getting healthier every day, due to pioneering research in the use of stem cells, also supported by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
We never know when we will need the treatments LLS supports. I think of it as investing in the future for my loved ones--perhaps even myself!
Please support me, Susan, my mom, and all those children and adults fighting blood cancers in the San Francisco Bay Area by making a tax deductable donation.
Be sure to check my website frequently to see my progress in both training and fundraising.
Thanks for your support!
Blessings,
Barbara
