Racing to Save Lives
I'm training to participate in the San Francisco NIKE half marathon on October 19th with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. TNT raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. In exchange for fundraising, TNT will help me train for the race and provide coaching.
I attended a team in training meeting 10 years ago with the intention of training to run a marathon. I knew it was a good cause but unfortunately lacked the motivation and drive to commit to it. It is pretty amazing how things have changed now that I am a mom. I have such a desire now to do something that is bigger than myself and to make a difference.
I am not a runner, the most I have ever run was 6 miles and it was NOT easy. I hope I can call myself a runner in a month when I run, walk or crawl across the finish line but for now I am just someone training to run 13 miles. So why would I do something like this? For me, I do it for all the moms who are taking care of their sick kids. I know that I could do anything if my child was sick if it could help them. If I had to run across the country I would, so the least I can do is run 13 miles and raise money for a great cause. I know it is not going to be easy, but it is nothing compared to the pain of watching your child go through treatment for cancer.
A minimum of 75% of your contribution goes directly to research and patient programs, while 100% of your support and good wishes goes directly to me! Your encouragement and positive reinforcement will go a very long way in helping me complete this half marathon. Every contribution will have an impact and will be personally acknowledged by me. Please know that I will carry your support across that finish line with me on October 19th.
As if the great cause is not enough motivation to finish this race, rumor has it that firemen in tuxedos will be greeting me at the end with a nice blue box from Tiffany & co.
On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, thank you very much for your support. I greatly appreciate your generosity.
