My Fundraising Page

My grandfather started my nursing education around age one (see photo). We took a break until my first year at University of Michigan School of Nursing school and he quizzed me through biochemistry and pharmacology. I wasn't the first Wilner he helped through school: my grandmother is a Registered Nurse (well, maybe she helped him through school) and my father is also a physician.
My grandfather, Freeman Wilner, M.D. was one of the first hematologists/oncologists in Michigan; he dedicated his life to helping battle these blood related cancers. He had a long and successful career, but ironically became a victim of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
I'll be doing the Lavaman Triathlon (swimming 1.5k [.93 mile], biking 40k [24.8 miles] and running 10k [6.2 miles]) on March 29 to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Our family genes must include some affinity for endurance events. My parents, both marathon runners, took me for my first run around age five. I still have a scar on my knee, but they made me keep going. My Uncle Paul is working on his 14th Team in Training event and is one of the top fund raisers in Michigan.
Approximately 75% of the funds raised directly support research and patient services. They support local medical research - work that could have extended my Grandfathers life. I'm sad that he didn't get to see me graduate, get married or start my career in health care. I'm raising funds to help patients like my Grandfather and their families. Research can help find cures and better treatments with less side effects.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training. Remember, all donations are 100% tax deductible and it's really easy to use the online donation system. On top of that, Google matches 100% of your donation!
You can click on right side of this page 'Make a Donation' or you may prefer to send a check. Please make it out to:
