I'm officially 4 months into a 10 month journey and things are going really well! Our training is going really well and we're up to 60 mile bike rides and 13 mile runs. I'm feeling prety good after most workouts which means I'm not pushing harder than I should be. We're going to keep adding the mileage each week and I'm really having a good time so far.
The sushi fundraiser exceeded my expections in every way - it was great food, everyone had a great time, and the fundraising worked out better than I hoped. I'll probably do another sushi fundraiser again so if you missed out on the first one you'll have another chance.
I'm thrilled to be so far along in fundraising already - over $5,300 so far! Thanks to everyone who has donated. Every little bit helps.
I'm making more regular updates at my normal blog at http://brian-johns.com so head over there for recent updates.
I'm doing my first organized fundraiser and it's going to be FUN: All-you-can-eat sushi along with a guided sake tasting!
We'll be meeting at Truya Sushi in Santa Clara at 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 27th for a guided sake tasting, accompanied by all-you-can-eat sushi and other food. This includes Nigiri sushi, fancy rolls, etc. The cost is $100, payable to me directly. Erin and I have been eating at Truya for years and the owner is a great guy, so I'm happy to be able to put this together.
Monday is a rest day in our training calendar so I'll have a day to recover from all the sushi before spinning and core strength sessions on Tuesday night. :-)
As you can see from the info on the right of the webpage, fundraising is going well. I'm at $2,740, which puts me over a third of the way to my goal of $8,000. Thanks to all of my supporters for their generous donations, large and small. Every little bit helps. The entire Ironteam has raised over $60,000 so far this season, which has a big impact on the fight against cancer. (That's $60,000 in only two months!)
There's some prep involved at the restaurant so I need RSVPs by Wednesday the latest. Please let me know if you have any questions or are interested in attending.
We're off and running! It's early December and our training program for Ironman Tahoe 2013 has started. Most of my updates are on my personal blog at http://brian-johns.com but I wanted to make a quick update here now that things have kicked off.
The first few meetings were devoted to planning and a few educational sessions but we're starting to get busy on the actual exercise now.
We're going to be working out up to 6 days a week so I'm going to have to acclimate my body to that level of exercise. I expect to be pretty tired a lot of the time, but in a good way.
My fundraising has started off strong and I'm at $2,190 now. Thanks to everyone who has donated to my effort. I'm doing this in memory of Greg Junell and I'm happy that I've raised so much already. I'm looking forward to reaching my goal of $8,000 which will make a difference in the fight against blood cancers. Thanks for your help!
Welcome to my Team In Training fundraising home page!
I'm on a mission-to honor the memory of my friend Greg Junell by helping cure blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’ve signed up for the first running of Ironman Lake Tahoe 2013 as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for other patients and their families as well.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. Do it because it feels good, or do it for Greg.
You can also follow my training and learn more about why I'm doign this on my regular blog at brian-johns.com
