Run, Rome, Run!

When I first joined Team In Training, my goal was to run a marathon at least once in my life. "This will be my first and last marathon," I told myself in 2006. Well, my personal goal became a quest to help fight cancer. This year will mark my 4th marathon with Team In Training.

The Society has been working hard for more than 50 years, and Society-funded research has contributed to major advances in the treatment of cancer. But more progress is needed to find cures. Someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer every 5 minutes; every 10 minutes someone dies. In fact, despite the many breakthroughs, leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under 20.

That's why I'm asking all of my family and friends to support me in my race to save lives.

I'm training to participate in the Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon as part of my training for the 2009 San Francisco Marathon. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
