Training News This past Saturday I trained with my pal Judy and the San Francisco walk Team. We walked 9 miles in Golden Gate Park. Judy and I walk/ran - walking 5 minutes then running for 1 minute - for the entire 9 miles....we averaged a 14 minute mile...That was just enough running -- increased my cardio/ but didn't kill my joints -- the middle way is working for me...

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does” - Margaret Meade
Yes, indeed! 95% to the $5000 goal (more checks coming in) --- proudly done without corporate sponsorship --- just an ever widening circle of friends and family. It is awesome to witness this incredible ripple effect of generosity... it has brought tears of joy to myself and others...
I'm going to have a Fundraising Event next Saturday, March 19 at Vino Tabi in the Swift Street Courtyard. There will be wonderful wine, music, and a raffle/silent auction. Stay tuned for more news on this. If you would like to donate something towards the raffle, or would like to bring a tray of snacks...please contact me soon! This will be a fun event. Many thanks to Susan Coale for helping to make this happen!

WOW!! We've raised 70% (counting recent checks) ....this is great --- Trying to raise $5000 in a 4 weeks is a steep goal.....No worries - I'll be collecting donations until my event, so I bet we exceed that goal! I am truly awed and inspired by the amazing response ...... so many folks taking the time to send a donation and words of encouragement and gratitude.
Training News: I walked 10 miles yesterday-- Natural Bridges to Seabright -- in 2 hours 52 minutes. That's with two pee stops. I need to get a better handle on my hydration/electrolyte/sweat/pee...I walked with my mentor, a seasoned marathon walker...and she didn't need to stop at all!!!!! Afterwards, I took an ice bath afterwards and all is well...ok, my feet did feel a little weary....

Fundraising as a zen practice....it is about kindness, generosity, and hope.
It's not about me --- it's about people coming together to help make a difference.
February 26, 2011
Training is going well...I'm enjoying walking in all sorts of weather, times and places: rain or shine (really!), early morning or after dark, high school track or west cliff drive......I figure if I can walk 8 miles in the cold rain, surely I can walk 26 miles in Alaska....!
My list of honorees is growing... I practice lovingkindness meditation and while I walk or sit in meditation, I hold their names and stories.
One of my honorees is Emile Erickson. Here is a photo of Emilie and an email from her mom. This is why I am training/fundraising....

Hi Genine,
Thank you for all your hard work for LLS. They are an amazing organization. We connected with LLS when Emilie was first diagnosed in June 2010. Emilie completed treatment at LPCH in October and then we were fortunate enough to go to St. Jude in Memphis for a natural killer cell treatment. We were in TN for a month and returned home just in time for Christmas. We went back for a quick doc visit 2 weeks ago. All her lumbar punctures and bone marrow tests have thankfully come back negative. Emilie is now in remission and on "surveillance" and sees her oncologist only once a month. We are really loving getting back to "normal". At the end of June after her first chemo treatment, her legs slowly stopped working. She is now in a wheelchair and having physical therapy many times a week. She is slowly recovering which is such a miracle. She is in 5th grade and goes to school part time, but really loves getting back in touch with her friends. Below is a link to our family blog which is 4 years old, but has been such a source of therapy for me during Emilie's journey. Feel free to use any photo of Emilie from the blog.
We have a few friends and family members that are running/walking in honor of Emilie. We are so blessed to be loved and supported by our TNT/LLS friends. Thank you again for walking with thoughts of Emilie. I am touched by your efforts to help find a cure for leukemia and lymphoma. Please send me a link to your fundraising page as I would like to post it on our blog as well as on Facebook if it is okay with you.
Love,
Patti Erickson
February 14, 2011 Happy Valentine's Day! (20% there..!)
My first full week of fundraising, and I've been reminded more than once -- -of the real goal for all this money-raising-- to help the moms, daughters. nephews, friends, students - the loved ones who are battling or have battled with cancer -- and to bring hope of a cure by funding research. I'll carry the names of these loved ones and walk in their honor.
February 9, 2011
A special thanks to my first nine donors...your generosity helped get my fundraising campaign off to a good start! Yay! (11% toward the goal!)
It's my first week of training and I've been walking a little bit more each day. I'm up to 3 miles, which doesn't seem like a big deal, but I'm learning to walk differently -- like a fitness walker!
February 6, 2011
I'm training for the Anchorage Mayors' Midnight Sun Marathon in Alaska on June 18, 2011. I'm training as a fitness walker- a great complement to my cycling/swimming/yoga - and hope to walk at least half and maybe the full marathon. I am a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training share the most important goal - to raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please join me in my fundraising 'kick-off'.....I will match all donations made before my first first track workout on Thursday, February 10, 2011.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training
and help advance LLS's mission.
My goal is to raise $5000 for LLS.
The fundraising deadline is March 7, 2011...
but donations are always accepted at any time!
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.
Here's the bottom line: your donation isn't for my sake, LLS is making a huge difference in lives of real people battling cancer - your contribution goes toward family services and towards cancer research...
Every little bit helps --
Thank you for your support! ......
