Fighting Blood Cancer
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. I am very excited about being a part of Team In Training and participating in the effort to fight leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. As we start this new decade, I'm reaffirmed my commitment to help fight blood cancer and with your help I hope to achieve my fund raising goal.
As part of the process of helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) reach out to potential donors, TNT members participate in an endurance event to promote awareness. I will be participating in an Ironman distance event next summer. For those who don't know, an Ironman is a triathlon consisting of 2.4 miles (3.86 km) swim, 112 miles (180.25 km) bike and 26 miles 385 yards (42.195 km, i.e., a marathon) run, raced in that order and without a break.
I've come a long way these past few months from nausea in the pool, calf cramps in the tracks and not even having a bike... The first of the year I made it up Mount Hamilton (see link below). I can now deal with 112 mile bike rides, 20 mile runs and the swim... well, I still struggle with the swim, but I can swim 2.4 miles, even if very slowly! I've also had many adventures, including loosing the bike chain 104 miles into a 112 mile ride, having to run/walk and coast the final 8 miles with my bike; earlier in the season I had a crash into a barbed wire fence... ouch!
It is a long road of training for the event and the event itself will be very long and challenging. However, the real challenge is the fight against blood cancer. I hope you will join me in that fight.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation today and help support the cause! What better way to start the new decade than contributing to a great cause?
You can use the "Other" option to find a number you feel comfortable with. You can go for inspirational numbers such as $75 (cost of tissue typing for bone marrow donor), $200 (Family Support Group Program for one year), $40 (cost of sending a comprehensive packet of information for children with cancer), $226.26 ($1 for every Km on race day), $3,860 ($1 for every meter of swimming), etc. Chose what works for you. Remember, its tax deductible. Once you've donated, check to see if your company has a donation/gift matching program.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
