Ironman!
Welcome all to my Team In Training Fund Raising Page!
In high school my swim coach competed in an Iron Man Triathlon. I thought that was something I could never do.
2 years ago I was introduced to Team In Training. I thought about doing a triathlon, but I couldn't get over the idea of running for more than 2 miles, unless I was being chased by a cop or a tiger. So, to prove to myself that I could run a long distance I joined the marathon team. I completed the Alaska Mayor's Marathon with Team In Training and quickly became hooked. Ok, I took a long break from endurance training after that. I said that I would probably never do a marathon again unless it was the last leg of an Ironman.
The summer of 2009 led me back to Team In Training, but this time to attempt a triathlon. Unfortunately due to a timing conflict I wasn't able to participate in the summer team event. But, I was able to train with them fo a while and then roll over to the fall team where fortune struck within misfortune. The event for the fall Tri team was a half-ironman. I raced the Big Kahuna Triathlon* in October of 2009 (yeah that was recent).
When I crossed the finish line at Big Kahuna I had two thoughts. One, get me a beer. Two, get me a sign up sheet for Iron Team! I met people from the Iron Team over the course of my triathlon training, so the idea of an Ironman had already been growing in my mind. That feeling held in the days to come. The only reason it took me a while to join, was because I couldn't pick my event. I will participate in the Vineman Ironman distance triathlon on July 31, 2010. This event is not an official M. (or I.M or M.I or whatever they call it when they put the logo on the finisher jersey) event, but it is a full Ironman distance event. The event is also located in Sonoma County, CA so I should have plenty of friends and family sitting in the wineries cheering me past (wink wink).
So what can you do to help?
The first thing you can do is make a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on my behalf. I have committed to raise, well let's just say a large amount of money, for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society while I train for this event. If you are reading this you are already on my fundraising page, so make a donation while you are here.
The second thing you can do is support me throughout my training. I want to quote one of my facebook friends "It takes more than 1 person to make an iron athlete!"
If you are here and have donated already, stop by again because I will try to keep updates posted here. If you have not donated, keep stopping by to look at the updates, and you might eventually decide "Holy crap! He's doing an Ironman! A $500 donation is nothing compared to that"
