26.2 miles to a Cure
Jul 28, 2010 by Michelle Zambrana
In May 2009, I chose to
participate in the Nike Women's Marathon as a member of The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In
Training ( TNT) are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin
lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I began my mission with the hope of making a difference in one person's life. Thanks to Team in Training, I was able to make new friends, while directly impacting the lives of people who thanked for me doing the simplest thing: asking others for help for a cure.
I have done two seasons with Team in Training, completed 4 half marathons and now, I am going back to finish what I started.
Last October, 2 weeks before the event, I was injured, and had to scale down to the half-marathon course in San Francisco.
Now, a year after my very first season with TNT,I am training once again to complete the Nike Women's Full Marathon, on October 17, 2010.
I am doing this in loving memory of Ana Luz Mayoral. She was my best friend's mother, who was taken away from us in 2002 after a six month battle with cancer. Her death was sudden, but her memory has lived on in her two daughters, whom possess her vibrant spirit and gusto for life.
I run in her memory, to help every mother, father and family that has ever lost someone or lived with cancer. For my best friend, Ani who has shown strength, maturity, and resilience in the years since her passing (she is pictured above with me and my medal after my last marathon event in Disney).
I also run in honor of my brave friend, Erica Calix-(pictured above to my right in the black sweater)a cancer survivor, who has been stricken with lymphoma twice- her strength and determination inspires me to fight so that others have a chance to live a healthy, cancer-free life.
I hope you can make a small donation in my continued fight againt blood cancers. For everytime you have wished you could help but didnt know how to- this is your chance!
IF YOU ARE DONATING IN HONOR OR IN MEMORY OR SOMEONE, PLEASE LEAVE THEIR NAME SO i CAN HAVE IT ON MY JERSEY ON RACEDAY!
To make it easier for you, here is a choice list of total amounts you can give (But no worry about the amount; every little bit truly helps.)
wish I could be there to cheer you on.
All this training gets Michelle out of the house.
If she can run 13.1 miles then she should give me a call now and then.
At least she is doing something worthwhile
When was the last time I even saw Michelle?
barely have enough for rent these days.
Make Michelle earn it the old-fashioned way.($1.00 per mile)
See you at the finish line- but we wont stop till we get to the ultimate finish line : A CURE!
