Valerie's Web Page - Racing For Life! (photo: pre-race tattoos. I wore a total of 24 on race day. Amazingly, my knees were pain-free for 26.2 miles - no doubt with a little help from my friends!) Welcome humans! November 3, 2008 Well, I did it! I finished the 26.2 miles of the 2008 Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco! My goals coming into this event were to 1. Finish 2. Finish in one piece - without injury 3. Finish with a smile on my face 4. Finish in about 6 hours I am happy to report that this mission was accomplished. In fact, other than the expected soreness of pounding my body for 6 hours, I managed to go about the rest of my day without incident. One very vital point that I want to get across is how important your donations were and how much gratitude was expressed to Team in Training for your support. So from Northern California I bring you back a huge "Thank You!!!" So much happened in San Francisco that I've been working at putting together a blog to post on my website. It became very important to share the exciting and heartwarming events that preceded the marathon with all of you that made an investment in it. I'm gathering photos and wrapping up the narrative - It's still under construction - i didn't want to leave anything out (meaning, it'll be long). I promise to post it very, very soon. In the meantime, check out the links below. The Nike link will take you to the marathon results page. Type in my name under participants and you'll got to the race info and also see some photos of me crossing the finish line. http://insidenikerunning.nike.com/index.php?s=marathon+results+san+fran The other link will take you to my web page. The marathon blog will be posted there soon. Again, thank you for going on this journey with me. All of you were so very important - to me - and now that i've figured a couple of things out - more importantly, to those families and individuals suffering with such devestating illness. Seeing them watching us go by - running for THEM - was an experience that I will never forget. I've never known what feeling like a hero was like - I think that was my moment - and I pass that moment to you. You were all heroes that day and I thank you. |
