1/20/09 -Tues: ONLY 4 MORE DAYS BEFORE THE BIG EVENT!!!!

So for those of you who haven't heard yet, my last run was for 12 miles about 2 weeks ago, and that was my 3rd time doing that mileage. There is no doubt in my mind or physically that I would ace this thing, however after my last run I started getting knee pain and by nighttime I was limping. I let it go a couple of days thinking that it would get better, but it didn't. By mid week I went to the doctor and he said I have "runner's knee" or patellofemoral symptom and he explained that the cartilidge under my knee is mush or softened and therefore the knee cap has a slight lateral move. Yes, it's loose. I am getting physical therapy and the therapist swears that I'll be running by Marathon day but with lots of pain. But, who in the right mind would want to do that? I see the doc again this coming Thurs so we'll see what he says. I am mentally preparing myself to walk instead, but I'll just have to wait and see on my progress. I am so dissapointed and mad at the whole situation cause I worked so hard for so long and I NEED my medal. And to tell you the truth, I had many dreams seeing myself sprinting across that finish line.....what an accomplished feeling I had in my face and smiling from ear to ear. Either way, it is what it is. I try to stay focused as the most important thing was that I raised money and have passed my goal of $2,500 so I am very happy about that and I know my time defintely went to great cause and was not wasted! Thanks to everyone for their support and donations in making this happen!

Whatever happens I will be at the Marathon as planned proudly wearing the names of the heroes we are either remembering or honoring for this special event. If you have someone near and dear that you would like for me to wear their name on my shirt, please email me this info.

If you have any last minute good luck messages or can't make it to the event, you can record yourself and post it to youtube and it will be played for free on a giant jumbotron screen in the beginning of the race. Send it before 1/22. It's your chance to speak to thousands of athletes or your 5 seconds of fame!

Click here for guidelines/ instructions, you will have to post the video to youtube.com/runmiami

Stay tuned for more info on my status as day gets closer.......

Racing to Save Lives

Corriendo para salvar vidas

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

Bienvenidos a mi website - para espanol mire abajo.

Two years ago, my dad, Eloy Perez-Montejo, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. With the chemo and radiation treatments he received, the doctors were able to reduce the size of his tumor which then allowed him to go through surgery which was an impossible option in the beginning, according to doctors. Thanks to the outstanding and highy skilled surgeon and his team, his surgery was a success.

My dad remained with tremendous strength and courage, and most ironically with the sense of humor that kept all of us smiling through these tough times. During this time, my father didn't fail to make a presence at social gatherings such as weddings and parties to share time with friends and family demonstrating his courage in facing this disease. His positive attitude helped him through this, and most importantly all our prayers which were heard. Although, semi retired now, he continues working with his wife, Clara in all operations of Dianely's Furniture and has almost recouped to 100% of the activities he was doing before. God gave him the opportunity to continue his life and he is now a cancer survivor.

Fortunately, he was lucky that his body responded well to the treatments and the surgery, but others arent as lucky. That is why I feel committed to help with cancer research in hopes that others may be spared. I will be doing this by raising funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and participating in their Team in Training program to run the ING half-marathon (13.1 miles) in Miami on January 25, 2009 in my fathers honor. I need your help to cross the ultimate finish line- a cure!

The LLS sponsored research has been the catalyst for effective treatments for Hodgkins disease, lymphomas and other common kinds of cancer, including stomach, breast, and lung cancer. The great thing about LLS is that 75% of the money donated goes to cancer research. Also, your contribution is 100% tax deductible.

My goal is $1,800, but I know that with your help we can reach $2,500.

Please join me in my commitment to LLS and be part of my race for the cure campaign by donating today. Whatever you can give, everything counts!

Visit this site often to see my progress throughout the training Ill be sure to post stories and pictures (but I have to warn you that I will look sweaty, tired, and horrible).

Thank you so much for your support and generosity. I will think of you every mile I train and the 13.1 miles of the race!

Lets make the difference now!

P.S. I would appreciate it if you would forward this link to as many people as you can to encourage them to donate as well. Also, please note that some employers match funds raised or donated by their employees. Talk to your HR department to find out about your employers policy and if they have a matching program.

**********************************************ESPANOL
