Racing to Save Lives
Thank you for visiting my page. As many of you know, I recently have fallen in love with cycling and it has changed my life. I had not been on a bike in over 20 years but decided to take the plunge and have not looked back since. With lots of hard work my dream is becoming a reality and I am really starting to rack up the miles. However, since I started this journey I have discovered that there are others out there who need our help in reaching their goals and making their dreams a reality as well. Their dream is simply to live.
Through my cycling I have discovered a way I can accomplish two goals; riding a 100-mile bike race and fighting cancer. You see, cancer affects all of us and we do not even know it. My friend Bob is enduring a tough fight with lung cancer and is still not in the clear. My mother Estelle passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. Just in case you thought you might not know anyone directly, I (YES ME LARRY) took on this deadly disease personally 11 years ago! You see...cancer touches everyone.
***UPDATE. Unfortuantely I am sorry to say that my good friend Bob lost his battle with cancer and passed away February 23rd. He will be missed. This is even more the reason that I am doing this.
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. The event is America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, a 100-mile cycling ride around Lake Tahoe. I'm completing this grueling event in honor of Bob, my mother, and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
