Rhodes Race 2010 = Success!
The 3rd ever Rhodes Race 5k on April 11th was a success! Despite the rain, a great time was had by all and more than $6300 was raised! Thank you! You can check out the race results and pictures here: www.rhodesrace.com
Still fundraising. Now in honor of Kevin.

This season has taken on new meaning for me and Matt. We fundraise annually to show our gratitude to those instrumental in Matt's lymphoma recovery; and we dedicated this season to family friend and wonderful woman, Mary Draper, who passed away from her short battle with Leukemia. Everything was going as planned: we were meeting new teammates, getting inspired, and accomplishing new physical milestones and fundraising lots of money.
Unfortunately, I was reminded that while advancements have been made and treatments have improved, our friends and family are still getting diagnosed with blood cancers and suffering through treatments that will hopefully, save their lives. My good friend since high school, Kevin was just diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He is two rounds of chemo down and 10 more to go. It was easy to fundraise because I was showing gratitude for Matt's survival. It is much harder and scarier to fundraise knowing it can affect Kevin's experience during treatment and the ultimate success of his treatment.
Please donate and please keep Kevin in your thoughts and prayers over these next 6 grueling months.
Thanks!
~Claire
p.s. coaching has been more of challenge for me on the training front than I had expected. i haven't swum and haven't gotten all the bke miles in I should have. So, after a TNT teammate with a strong swim background broke her ankle, and my boss, who is an incredible cyclist developed plantar fasciitis, we decided to form a Wildflower Long Course all women's relay. We are Team Gimpy Girls! If all goes well, we can actually get on the podium. Our swimmer's cast comes off two days before the event, so she will need crutches from the water exit to transition...

Matt survived Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We are very, very grateful to everyone who was instrumental in his recovery: from friends and family for their support, prayers and love, to doctors and nurses for their medical know-how and compassion, to the many LLS supporters who raised the funds that resulted in a treatment that worked for Matt. Raising money every year for LLS to continue their work to find better treatments and ultimately a cure, is the only way we know of to give thanks.
If you have donated before -- thank you!!!! And please donate again. If you have not donated before and can this year, please do! Or please forward this link to someone you think may want to donate.
Matt and I will be training for the Wildflower Long Course Triathlon this spring. In addition to training, Matt will be volunteering as Team Honoree and Claire will be volunteering as Assistant Coach.
We are dedicating this season to our family friend Mary Draper, who lost her short battle with cancer, and all of the other amazing people we have met who have passed away or survived a blood cancer since we first joined Team In Training in 2005.
Thank you, Go Team, and see you at Rhodes Race 5k!
