Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page! As a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training, I'd like to thank you for your support and aid to cancer sufferers around the world. With your help, all of us on Team in Training are raising funds to help stop blood cancers from taking more lives.
This spring, I will be training for the Avia Wildflower triathlon at Monterey in honor of all individuals now battling blood cancers. Every 4 minutes, someone else is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, or Hodgkin lymphoma, and every 10 minutes, someone dies. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My personal honorees for this triathlon are Caitlin Connolly, a testament to leukemia and lymphoma research and treatment., and Gil Lawton. As a three year old child, Caitlin was diagnosed with one of the most severe forms of childhood leukemia. Today, thanks to cutting-edge advances in childhood cancer treatment like those funded by LLS, she is a medical student, considering her own career in cancer treatment and research. Gil Lawton, my dear friend and neighbor, passed away several years ago from leukemia. I still remember how brightly he smiled, even while undergoing treatment, and I am proud to be able to honor his memory.
I am also racing in honor of Judy Davis, wife of the late Cal Davis. Judy's death inspired her husband to create the Judy Davis Foundation, which works to raise awareness of blood cancers and increase bone marrow registration, particularly among minority people. Thanks to his efforts, the numbers are now in the hundreds of thousands, and continuing to rise.
Other honorees include Bob Denig, who passed away in 1998, Rendel Rozier, who is still fighting, Lia Chandler, and LaTrina A. Johnson.
Remember, everybody, no support is too small!
If you can't give 1,00$, give 100$
If you can't give 50$, give 5$
If you can't give 5$, give 50 cents
If you can't give 50 cents, bookmark this link and email it to somebody who can!
Please come back often to see the progress towards my fundraising goal - and towards saving the lives of sufferers around the world.
If Humans Were Fish
If humans were fish...
Hold your breath
for a minute
And see how it feels.
Ten heartbeats, ten minutes...
Someone has died.
Hold your breath for a minute
Because you can stand
Because you care
Can you feel, can you hold? The heart in you ripping, this tearing of water,
Red-dripping, you feel:
Reaching for oxygen, reaching for-
The last thing we'd discover....
We are one in our blood.
