Racing to Save Lives
Howdy! Welcome to my Team In Training home page. Thanks to everyone who made it out to my fundraising events!
Update:
9/13/2010: I rocked the Pacific Grove Olympic Triathlon! Special thanks to my friends who came to support me at the triathlon. For those who are curious, here are my results:
Overall time: 3 hours, 9 minutes, 4 seconds
Swim (1.5k = 0.93 miles): 33 minutes, 23 seconds
First Transition: 3 minutes, 32 seconds
Bike (40k = 24.8 miles): 1 hour, 26 minutes, 39 seconds
Second Transition: 3 minutes, 7 seconds
Run (10k = 6.2 miles): 1 hour, 2 minutes, 23 seconds
I had such a great time. This whole experience is dedicated to my friend Ben.
[Updated 9/13/2010]
I've signed up for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) to participate in a triathlon this September. The combination of my desire to do a triathlon and to do what I can to help others has brought me to this point.
Two years ago, a FedEx guy named Ben would keep me company during my lunchtime at the office. After some time, we shared some great stories and became friends. Ben would teach me about political/financial concepts and remind me to take care of my health. I found this rather peculiar, since he looked so healthy. What I didn't know was that Ben had leukemia. He chose to keep on working at FedEx even after finding this out. Unfortunately, Ben passed away late last year due to complications from leukemia.
I attended his funeral, which was emotional. I sought to find a way to let Ben know that he has had a positive impact in my life. A combination of all these factors has pushed me to participate in a triathlon and raise funds for TNT.
As a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training, all of us are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
At least 75% of your donations go directly to research. LLS has invested more than $600 million in research since 1949 - over $71 million in 2008 - specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Any support (financial or otherwise) is much appreciated! If you know of anybody that may be interested in showing their support, please forward this website to them.
I hope you will visit my website often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
