Racing to Save Lives!
It's that time of year again! I am running the Nike Women's Half Marathon again this year to raise money to get closer to finding a cure for Blood cancer!
The Nike Women's Half Marathon will be on October 14, 2012 in San Francisco and I am training as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Last year when I ran this race I had two honorees that I was running for, John Boscia (JB) (myeloma) and Elizabeth Leite (leukemia). It is with sadness that I have to admit that I will be running for one more honoree this year. Last year on Thanksgiving, my uncle Bobby (Bob, RC, whatever you know him as :) ), went into surgery and was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
He went through one round of chemo shortly after his surgery and recently started a second round of chemo which has had some positive effects on his blood chemistry. He will be going through another round of chemo within the next month. While like most blood cancer patients, he has his good and bad days, Bob seems to be in good spirits. We only hope for the best for him.
I am completing this event in honor of the above three people in hopes of getting closer to a cure! Him and all the others battling these diseases are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. In 2011, $8.4 million went to Myeloma research! Let's help make the amount for 2012 even larger!
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
