Parc 55 Team Running to Save Lives in the Nike Women's Marathon!
May 29, 2012
Together, there’s no telling what we can do. As a Team, we can combine efforts to save lives. The Parc 55 Team is doing just that!
Throughout different cities and towns people are coming together to create teams to participate in a sports endurance event all with one common goal to honor and benefit all individuals battling blood cancers.
The Parc 55 will be participating in the Nike Women's Half Marathon in October, here in San Francisco. We will be raising funds to help find cures and more effective treatment for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. As a team, we can accomplish great things towards cures for blood cancers.
A note from Team Captain:
Every week I spend a few hours playing a serious game of Shoots and Ladders. Honestly. Sometimes it's Uno, other times, I am miserably embarrassing myself in a dance-off on Wii to a 5 year-old. Some of these hours are simply spent reading a book, doing a craft or playing make-believe. I am at the UCSF Children’s Hospital here in San Francisco during these hours along with some other amazing volunteers. We are doing our very best to take these children’s minds off their next or last surgery, their recent prognosis, the pain in their arm, chest or stomach from needles and chemo-ports, their broken foot, kidney failure, or their cancer. Blood cancers like leukemia are the number one disease killer of children -- lymphoma and myeloma. How serious is blood cancer? Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer.
I am so lucky, most of us are. At night when my volunteer shift is over, I pack up my things and head home- feeling blessed. These children stay behind, along side their families and friends, to keep fighting. Some of these children, like people around the world, will find success in their treatments and beat cancer. Sadly, all are not so fortunate. In actuality, every 10 minutes, someone dies from blood cancer.
We have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, we are excited to participate in Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco on October 14th as the Parc 55 Hotel Team.
Together we are raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma along with thousands of others looking to do the same. We might be lucky in our lives to be healthy and cancer-free, but we all have known someone who has not been.
Please consider making a donation to support our Team’s participation through “Team In Training” as we raise funds for research and to find cures for these diseases.
Together, we can accomplish great things towards cures for blood cancers.
Thank you so much,
