Together, there’s no telling what we can do. As a Team, we can combine efforts to save Lives
Jan 11, 2012 by Nicole Meehan

Welcome to Our Team In Training home page.

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope this letter finds you well. Nicole and I are training for a half-marathon in NYC on March 18th. Yes, you read that correctly! Over the next four months, we will be pushing ourselves like never before.

During training in the middle of winter we will face many challenges like being cold, wet and tired. But those challenges are nothing compared to the physical and emotional challenges faced by a person going through cancer treatments or the emotional challenges faced by their loved ones.

We have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, we are participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, we will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

Blood cancers kill more children in the United States than any other cancer and even more adults. Twelve people every hour are diagnosed with a blood related cancer. With your support, we can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families, and become one step closer to finding a cure.

As some of you know we lost our beloved cousin, Irene Sophocles to cancer. Until the day she died she never gave up hope for a cure.

Hopefully, one day there will be a cure for all cancers and there will no longer be a need to fundraise, but until then we will be changing lives one mile at a time. We have set a team fundraising goal of $8,000 to help cancer patients and their families. We hope to raise this amount by December 31, 2011.

Every dollar is tax deductible, and at least 75% of the funds go directly toward research and patient care. Your donation is a gift to those who are fighting their own blood cancer, those who are fighting to find a cure, and in honor of those you've loved that lost their fight to blood cancer.

Thanks to your support we are one step closer to a cure

GO TEAM!

Irene and Nicole Meehan

p.s. If you know someone who has been afflicted with a blood-related cancer, we would love to run in their honor as well. Please let us know their name(s) and we will be sure to wear a bracelet for them on event day.

Week 8 & 9
Jan 11, 2012 by Nicole Meehan

Week 8 found us trudging along it was good to have some exercise to help burn all those Holiday Calories off. In general we did slow down a bit to enjoy the season and our loved ones, but….

Week 9 we kicked it back into gear in a big way. Nicole picked up a X-Training/Core class and is now getting her workout on at 6am every Tuesday and Thursday, and is already getting stronger and faster which is helpful, because.. On Saturday we ran 7 miles in the Presidio. For you non-San Franciscans that means hills lots and lots of hills, one particularly grueling 2 mile stretch was entirely uphill. But, thanks to all the support we know is behind us we came out victorious. Can’t believe we’re over halfway to our goal of 13.1 miles! Even better we our now over halfway to our fundraising goal we know that thanks to your support we will make both our goals by race day!

Week 7
Jan 11, 2012 by Nicole Meehan

This was our hardest week yet. We spent the better part of the week recovering from the soreness of running six miles last week. Irene's medial ligament is sprained and Nicole's chest pain got inflamed. Yet we push on because as Christmas approaches we start to remember all of our loved ones those whom we are sharing this holiday season with and more pointedly those we have lost. This year in particular we remember our cousin Irene. We think about how hard she fought until the end and how she believed a cure would be found. Now we are continuing that fight for a cure and thanks to all your support we believe one will be found.

Week 6
Jan 11, 2012 by Nicole Meehan

WOW! If anyone had told us six weeks ago we would be running 6 miles we would not have believed them, but that is exactly what we did on Saturday. We both RAN 6 Miles, absolutely no walking. That said our bodies now feel like we ran 6 miles, OUCH! Which is why it is especially great that we got to have our Honoree Brunch this week, and here the stories of all the Honoree’s we our running for. AMAZING stories, if they can survive cancer than we certainly can do this. Knowing we are running for a purpose makes all the pain worth it.
