Racing to Save Lives
Welcome
to Sara Clark's Team In Training home page!
4/19 Update:
I have now trained hours on end for the past 5 months straight-- lap after lap in the pool, jumping in the freezing cold lake del valle trying to not swallow the dirty water; put in miles after miles on the bike, climbing hills and changing flat tires; and kept on putting one foot in front of the other on every run, whether it was panting through the Presido or racing around the track. And the point is, I am actually doing it!!! It is no longer a question of-- whatttt am I doing? I am continuing to stay motivated and continuing to keep pushing forward. And I have absolutely loved every single minute of the journey thus far! I have made wonderful friends, cried tears of exhaustion, laughed till my abs hurt, and kept on going with a smile on my face :) This is now my third Team in Training team I have been on, and by far I am having the most memorable experience with the most inspirational people pushing me along.
As I continue on this effort to not only to cross the finish line of Vineman (an Ironman length triathlon), but also to raise at least $6K, all I ask is that you do your part to help also. Think of all the people out there suffering with a cancer and do it to help them. Step outside of yourself and join the fight for a cure.
Every four minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Last week, it was my own dear grandmother. Another week, it was someone elses. I started this journey doing it for one of my best friends battling through Leukemia and am now doing it for all people battling any cancer. I am doing this to make a difference. Please help and make a difference also :) Every dollar counts.
Please donate to my fundraising and join me in my journey.
Thank you!!!!

Happy Holidays! Hope everyone is doing well this season! As many of you know, I’ve been a part of Team In Training (TNT) for a couple years, training for triathlons and raising money for Leukemia in honor of one of my best friends Golnaz Rahimi. I’ve signed up once again, but now with a little twist… I’ve raised the bar a little. I have now committed myself to training with TNT on the IronTeam, hoping to complete an Ironman triathlon distance called Vineman on July 31, 2010 near Napa, CA. It seems far away now, but training has already begun for the day that I plan to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112, and run 26.2 (a marathon!) all in the same day! While everyone may be enjoying the holidays drinking hot chocolate and staying warm, I’ll be putting in the miles on my feet, on my bike, and of course in the water.
I was walking around town the other day with my friend Golnaz. Here I am, walking and talking and laughing with her like it’s still our college days. She, hobbling along on crutches, acts like nothing is wrong. But, that’s not reality. The chemo that she’s been on for over two years has destroyed her bones and weakened her hips so badly that a double hip replacement surgery has been scheduled for February when she finishes this round of chemo. She’s 24 years old and still fighting just to walk. It was May 2007 when I personally first took her into the hospital and she was diagnosed with ALL- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We were all in shock—how could this vibrant, young, athletic friend of ours be diagnosed with Leukemia? It didn’t make sense, but none other than Golnaz herself convinced us that she would fight this through. Her positive attitude toward the fight to live encouraged me to immediately sign up with Team In Training, to complete my first Olympic distance Triathlon in the Fall of 2007 at Pac Grove, where I placed third in my division.
And here I am, back for more. Why? Because I believe in Team In Training, and I know that this organization is making a difference in the fight to find a cure for Leukemia. 75% of its proceeds go directly to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, funding research to find a cure for cancer. Since TNT first started, the organization has already raised nearly 1 billion dollars! I can proudly say I have contributed to that number in my past two seasons. And now, I have committed myself to raising more donations of $6,000 this season. Whether it be just a dollar or two, every cent matters. And that is why I am asking you, or anyone you know, to help. Should you decide to help find a cure, know that all donations are 100% tax deductible! Here is the number: 13-5644916.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
