Welcome to my Team In Training home page. You can also read my training blog @ http://triathlonio.us This year I'm training with my long time friend and groomsman Ed, who's wife Deepi is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. I'm also running this race in memory of Brent Kobata. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. September 7, 2009 Labor Day training at Lake Tahoe We spent the Labor Day holiday at Camp Jameson Beach in South Lake Tahoe with three other families from the neighborhood. Lake Tahoe, while not as salty or rough as the San Francisco Bay, is cold enough to warrant a wet suit when swimming long distances. I loved swimming in the Lake. The water is clear with a coarse sandy bottom. Swimming in the wet-suit made me more buoyant, so each pull/stroke when a little farther, but the also decreased my shoulder rotation, so I had to really focus on my form to make sure I didn't get sloppy and inefficient. This was my first mile swim in the open water this season and it was epic. The roads around the lake were also pretty epic for road biking. From Camp Jameson, it was a 5 mile up hill ride to Emerald Bay. Again, the lack of granny-gear (a small chainring (gear) that makes going up-hill easier) made this a real workout. Well worth it! I've only got four weeks left to reach my fundraising goal and I'm only 35% of the way there. August 23, 2009 14 mile Walnut Creek to Danville Sunday Ride Today was a "yoyo" - a "your on your own". The Summer Triathlon Team was on their way to Pacific Grove to practice for their upcoming triathlon. I drove out to Walnut Creek for a flat a straight course to practice my biking. An hour on a bike is nothing, but again, I'm just getting of the couch. The season is just starting! But I need your help. But honestly, it's the fastest two miles I've ran in a long time. I typically run trails at a 9-10 minute/mile pace. Time to pick it up a bit. :) Oh ja note to self. Edwards Field != Clark Kerr track :( I think I visited every possible running spot on the Cal campus before finally walking through the entire Edwards training facility (the gym, the baseball field, the tennis courts) before finding my posse at Edwards. August 11, 2009 Relaxing through the distances. It was a pretty epic morning in the pool. The pool wasn't crowded. There wasn't some crabby swimmer guy upset that I was about to jump into his lane. There weather was good. I had my coffee on. I was a competitive swimmer in elementary and high school; one of the best breaststrokers in our district. I'm not even going to comment on what you're thinking. Anyway, swimming now is really different than when I swam competitively. Not that this isn't competitive on some level. But my goal now isn't to be the best in the county, or to go crazy fast for 100 yards. My goal is to glide through the water at the most relaxed efficient pace I can for 1 mile. My goal is to get into a similar groove to the one I get into when I run seven relaxed miles. The legs move, the mind wanders. The further I swim the more relaxed I become. I'm not there yet, but I've seen glimpses of it. |
