T-Minus 30 days until race day!
Apr 06, 2011 by SHARON Vartabedian

Ready or not, race day will be here before I know it. In fact, 25 days from now - wahoo! I'm getting super expected about the upcoming events but I have to admit, I've already started to get a little bit of the race day jitters. I've done this before and know exactly what to expect but just thinking about it gets my stomach in knots. Funny how that works!

Training has been going well and I'm feeling pretty good on the bike and the swim--and even on the road "running". I haven't been able to do many ocean water swims but I hope in the next few weeks, I will be able to get out there and GO! The bad weather on the weekends has just prevented us from getting in the ocean and then last week, I had a mole unexpectedly removed on my arm and got 3 stitches--so even though the weather was PERFECT, I couldn't get in. I was bummed.

My experience with the TEAM continues to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in life and continues to push me and not only reach but surpass goals I've set for myself. An amazing accomplishment! Not to mention the inspiration that I get from my TEAM each and every week. Our Mission Moment last week was very emotional for us all. Teammate Carolayn shared her connection to cancer and I think we all fought hard to keep the tears back. Some were more successful at it than others.

In moments when I think I can't go anymore, or when I have nothing left to give -- I think of these mission moments and it is what gets me through the workout. Last week, it was Carolayn's Mom, Sandy who got me up Torrey Pines Hill when I wanted to throw in the towel. But, for Sandy I not only made it up, I made up it faster than I ever have. The power of TEAM.

These next few weeks of training are critical and just as important as the 8 weeks prior. We will be practicing transitions regularly and putting everything together. So, rather than bricks, we will actually be doing all three sports each Saturday. These sessions are always a lot of fun so I'm really looking forward to them.

Thanks to my wonderful, generous and supportive friends and family, I've nearly reached my stretch goal of $3200.00 - which will gain me Rock Star status with the TEAM. Only one other participant has reach this level and believe me, it's not easy to do. I'm so very grateful for everyone's support and generosity. It truly warms my heart to see how much we are surrounded by love. We are truly blessed.

Thank you again!

With all my love,

Week 8 Training Update
Mar 25, 2011 by SHARON Vartabedian

First, a great big thank you to all of you who have sent words of encouragement and/or donations these past few weeks. In my moments of weakness (and there have been many), it has helped me get through each and every one of the training workouts these past 8 weeks. For your unconditional support and generosity, I thank you...

I'm well into my 8th week of training for my upcoming triathlon and even though I'm exhausted and sore all the time, I'm surprisingly holding up well and having a great time! We are now biking 20+ miles twice a week and increasing our distances with our swims and runs--and even started our open water swims on Sundays. It's been a lot of work but it's also been a whole lot of fun!

I'm still several hundred dollars away from my fundraising goal and still in search of donations. If you've been considering a donation and would still like to do so, I'd very much appreciate you helping me get closer to my goal. The sooner I get there, the sooner I can just focus on my training and getting through that finish line.

Also, be sure to check out my training blog at for regular updates on my training progress.

All my love,

Racing to Save Lives . . . . One Mile at a Time!
Apr 22, 2011 by SHARON Vartabedian

Dear Friends and Family,

Welcome to my Team in Training Fundrasing page. I'm excited to announce that my back is healthy and I'm ready to hit the road to train for yet another endurance event—the 2011 WILDFLOWER TRIATHLON! (1.5km swim, 40km HILLY bike, 10km TOUGH run).

One might ask why I've joined TEAM again only to have to fundraise for yet another event—but the answer quite is simple. People are still suffering from blood releated cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and just because I crossed the finish line, the ultimate goal is finding a cure! Those at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the many others who raise money for the cause, are committed to fighting cancer. We can't do it without the support of everyone we know so I'm asking all my loved ones (yes, that's you!) to make a donation and follow me to the finish line.

Thank you in advance for your support and words of encouragement! I know this journey is going to be a fun one and I look forward to sharing it all with you.

All my love,
